Just curious as to how old your mowers are. What year are they? Did you buy new? How many hours are on them to date?

All of these were bought new.
1998 21" Ariens self-propelled....guess about 450hrs.
2000 Exmark Metro HP 48" w/15hp Kaw...438hrs.
2001(bought new in Sept of 2001) Exmark Lazer Z HP 52" w/23hp Kaw...228hrs.

2000 Exmark Metro HP, bought new, 16 HP Briggs Vanguard, no hour meter... 20 hours per week- I figure X 20 weeks X 2 years = 800 to 1000 hours?

Still strong.

Only replaced several belts, blades, spark plugs, filters, and a safety switch so far.

1998 commercial Lawnboy 6.5 horse two cycle; bought new; It was my only mower during 1999. I lost 20 pounds, so figure that into hours? 700? I broke the wheel adjuster loading on the trailer, otherwise absolutely no maintenance!

My Walker is a 1993. It only has 950hr's on her, so I think I can get quite a few more years out of her. 20HP Kohler runs great. No problems with the mower. When I need a new mower I will most likely buy another Walker Mower.

1999 Walker 25hp, 2000 Walker26 EFI, 2001 Walker 26 EFI, 2001 Toro Z-Master 23hp, 1996 Toro Pro-Line 15hp. I am looking into a used Ferris Hydro 52" walk-behind and was wondering if any owners out there? we average 400hrs a season per mower! And change oil every 50hrs, cheap insurance at around 2qts per change.

Main mowers:
2000 Exmark Lazer 60" EPS - 26 hp Kohler efi.
'94 Gravely Promaster 300 Rider - 20hp Kohler Magnum
'84 John Deere (Bunton) 52" Walk behind - 16hp Briggs & Stratton I/C.
Now, interestingly enough, I also have 2 old Snapper pushmowers, bought back in '84. These are the old 19" solid handled trim mowers, with the Tecumpseh 2 cycle motors on them. Both are still running strong, though they never get used anymore. One is set up for bagging, and the other is set up for side discharge.

2001 Exmark Lazer Z 60" w/ 23 hp. Kaw.

1999 Scotts/JD 42" w/ 16 hp. Kohler

2001 Yardmachine 22" w/ 6 hp. B&S

1978 IH Cub Cadet 1000 44" w/ 10 hp. Kohler
(My current restoration project! Mechanicals are now complete and cosmetics are 50% finished. One heck of a garden tractor!)

About to purchase (next week or two) a new 2002 Exmark Turf Tracer HP ECS 36" w/ 15 hp. Kaw. :D

Also need to get up to the Detroit area (Belleville) and pick up a mid 90's John Deere 48" walkbehind that is being given to me by my wife's uncle (also an LCO). It was given to him by a friend who is getting out of the business and good ol' Uncle Dan doesn't need it..but grabbed it for me. He already has 7 Dixie Choppers and a bunch of other walkbehinds and knew I needed something to fill the gap between the 60" and the 36" that's on the way. I don't know what model or horsepower it is (beggers can't be choosy) but I do know it is a belt drive. Uncle is going to go over it in his shop and fix/replace anything needed. Yeah, he likes to tinker with the mowers. I think it will be worth the trip...and I'll get to check out his Chopper collection while I'm there. :D

The age of a mower has less to do with the # of hours and what type of maintenace it received. My first rider a JD had around 5000 hours on it and didn't use a bit of oil. It had a Kaw 17. I was afraid the hydros would be going south and I was still able to sell it for almost what I paid for it.

my first Walker 48 GHS 20 HP Kohler, had 2100 hours on it before I replaced the engine, plus another 800 on the new engine before I traded it in. Both hydro's were all but shot.

Another thing to consider is the environment the mower is in most of the time. Pristine environments and a good maintenance program and you'll get a long life out of em. A dirty environment requires more maintenance.

Just make sure you bid accordingly so no matter how long your mower(equipment) lasts, it will be paid for and has made you the money it should have when you do retire it.

1996 JD SB 14 5.5 kawi with oil filter, it was my primary mower till 1999, It has probably 250 hours, the engine is good for probably 2000, but the clutch is shot on it.

In 1999 I bought my toro 36 12.5 kawi. about 400 hours, CDI went on it, whole blade engagement system, belts, and just broke a weld on the T-bar. But I love that mower

I Have A 1993 grasshopper 616 with1800 hrs still runs great
1995 Dienes "Marty J " 3700 hrs a little tired but still performs well . Low maintence considering it's age .
A 1987 model 212 Grasshopper unknown hours . It is a rebuilt backup machine with an 18hp motor . New pumps and gear boxes but we don't use it much . It is our museuem piece . It was our first zero turn machine when we won our first big commercial contract . Bought it for $2000 in fair to poor condition. Fixed it up as we went along . Made a great machine . It's only downfall is it has too many moving parts and is a little bit too high maintence .It still makes money but can cut into profits if not maintained .
1993 Troy Built wide cut mower . Still runs great . Unknown hrs.
2 Yardman 990 walk behinds One with a new shortblock both still run well
