In short I feel like they got this attitude like their poo don't stink, which I
don't have a problem with so long it really don't, but I think it kinda do.

I registered with them but I haven't been back since lol.

Yeah I lost interest somewhere within the signup process myself.
And no it wasn't at the point where I have to pay the money, I knew about that beforehand,
just somewhere in all of that I could see where it was all going and I was like, nahhh...

The way I understand it, the Customer has to add you first, then they start bugging you to pay for extras. The first part is free, but they can help you get better placement.

I was added on angies list a couple of years ago and I frequently get contacted for work from their members. I even got a super service award for all high ratings and that helps my listing stand out.
They try to sell me advertisement, but I just pass.
The contacts that I get are good and I often end up with the work, but the members often contact several contractors so you have to respond quickly and come in with a competitive bid.

How about bumping some of the Angie's list threads.

I'm beginning to see that Angie's List may be more committed to trying to build clout, than they are to providing the most reliable system possible.

So far, someone who I worked for gave me an "A" rating. And someone I never talked to, gave me an "F" rating after just a couple of emails about either getting an estimate, or whether I provide free estimates ...

So ...

January, a guy who read both reviews decided to hire me. He got one other estimate from an Angie's List referral. And I think they had a higher overall score due to the "F" that the one person gave me.

The reason the man hired me, was because the other company told him it would take about 2 hours to prune his small fruit orchard of 17 fruit trees, and I told him during the estimating, that it would take about 2 days, maybe slightly longer.

He knew that the other company could not have a clue about doing the work right. In the end, it took me 2 seven hour work days. And he said he liked the pruning a lot.

So the more I hear and experience regarding Angie's List, the more I see that users must still rely on heavy screening. And more or less, need to rely on references outside the Angie's List system.

Now the question remains, did Angie's work take the risk out of searching? Another way to put it, is how much risk does it take out of the search?
