Well today I was invited out to a youtube friend's jobsite. He said I was spoiled with my nice new equipment and need to come out and try the old skool machines, so I did.

First off is the cat 215 excavator with 26,000 hrs on the clock.
Video of me running it

Second was his old Cat D4D bulldozer.

I think I'll keep my komatsu!

That was when a excavator was a good machine. The old 235 is a even better machine they are older than a dinosaur but are tough.

How did you like that 215?

well it was by far the most sloppy machine I've ever ran, no offense to charlie the owner of this freshly painted turd:laugh: But then again I'm used to the modern excavators that have instant responces and a 10th of the hours on them!

But I did like that little D4 dozer, pain to run but fun... he's playing on my equipment tomorrow... he may not want to go back to his:dizzy:

The wobble stick and the separate foot pedals for travel are the best part of the old machine. Our old 225D you have to have to use every part of your body to track jump with it.

I know I had to ask him how I move the thing as I was used to the two pedal setup. maybe if I used it for more than 5 minutes I'd get the hang of it, until then hello Volvo:cool2:

Funny how the old stuff is painted nice. Makes me miss the old stuff that used to be around here. I know that I have been looking for an old dozer or track loader project for someday, but doubt any are still around. Over 20 years ago I missed out on a few projects because I had no place for them, a rather large Oliver dozer, a caterpillar wheel trencher, and the strangest excavator I ever saw. It was cable operated like a steam shovel, but had a Diesel engine. Unfortunately that one ended up scrpped as it was not too big and looked like it could be fixed. Never knew what make it was, though.

They may be old school, but that's the kind of equipment I was brought up on. Direct drive transmissions (hydro-what-ic??), pony engines, cable-operated dozer blades and scrappers. Don't get me wrong, I like the advances that have been made. But that old school equipment could pretty much do anything you wanted it to. :weightlifter:

I have loaded over 10000+ loads of fill dirt with Cat 235C and Ds, I have even loaded with a 235A the original 235 in Iowa. It Had the old old style controls up next to the front cab posts, you had to lean foward to reach them. It sucked doing that all day everyday.

PCI (Who I worked for for years) runs to this day a fleet of 13 or 14 235s. I have operated #1 (Antique), #7 (Scrap/Concrete crusher) #8 (C model) #9 (D model) #10 D Model, Best 235 in the fleet) #12 (D Model, Cab with non working air) The C and D models are all ME Models, all have at least a 4 to 5 yard bucket. You can easily 4 Pass a 40 ton ADT (D400, or 740) and 2 pass a tandem dump truck.

The guys all hate running them because they are so old, but production wise, they still perform quite well.
