I went and looked at one it feels like a ton and my rep said it works better if you use it frequently. He pretty much tried to talk me out of buying one.

I borrowed a Stihl redefiner from an LCO I work with occassionally and absolutely loved it. Like any other piece of equipment, there is a learning curve.
I started by going forward to create the line around the beds and eventually went backwards once the line was established.
Be prepared to get real dirty below the knees. The one I used really threw up some earth.

i plan on getting a couple for this mulch season. i talked with a couple people that use them (brickman) and they work well for established edges. but will not creat new ones. but will cut my edging time in half. the cost 650 here in md.

Doubt they work on clay at all.. my 13hp bed definer can get bogged down in clay..

A friend of mine bought one, said that they work well in beds where the edge has been done in years past. As far as creating new beds goes, he said under the right conditions it's ok, but not what the machine is designed to do.

we use ours all the time for existing beds and/or creating beds. We are in the hard clay here. It can take alittle time and acouple times across. For the money we love it. It does not create near the depth of a trench that a bedbug, bluebird, will but for the money love it. If I was doing a bunch of beds on a new construction of course I would go rent the bedbug, but for a small residential house it works great but the trench is not a wide or deep trench. hope that helps I struggled with buying one and took the plunge and would never turn around.
It does have a lot of power I threw specks of dirt all over a window when I first got it. Definitely need to be more cautious with this over a traditional walk unit. It will sling some gravel.

When did Stihl start making a redefiner? I can't find it on their site.

It works good for what it was designed to do.

Good for established bed edges to quickly sharpen up edges. Use them mostly for around trees. Does take some getting use to, but a time saver. Some clean-up needed after use along edges.

I paid around 660 for mine. I am very happy with it. It saves hours of labor under the right conditions. Doesn't work well in wet soil, but if its dry and the beds just need a clean-up, it saves a lot of time and you don't have all the chunks of sod/edging to dispose of. It has a lot of power and will cut through roots in the edge.
CAUTION: This thing will throw debris 20 yards or more. While edging a bed on the far side of one yard, we broke a window on the far side of the neighbors house. Now I have a guy hold a big shovel behind the edger when we use it. They should put a better/bigger shield over the blade.
