I have an 01' 25 horse Kawi Super Z with 60" deck and my problem is...my left wheel is not very responsive when turning and really doesn't want to bite when going downhill. My right wheel will bite and keep my from going out of control, but my left will slide the whole way down the hill and the left wheel will also tear up the grass pretty bad while turning on a slope due to the sliding. I am wanting to know if there is any good way to determine if it is either the wheel motor or the wheel pump. I have searched the forum, but I haven't found anything that can help me figure out which of the two it is. Thanks for your help...THIS IS A GREAT FORUM!

The first thing to do is stop using the mower.
Take a retractable magnet and put it in your hydro reservoir, touch the bottom and remove it, if there are metal filings on it then you have something coming apart, likely a wheel motor.
If there are no filings, then you may have a weak pump, air leak, bad belt.. etc.. etc...
The only true way to test this is to pressure test the pumps, this can be done by a Hustler dealer.
You dont pressure test the pumps if there is metal filings in the reservoir.

I forgot to mention.
Make sure your hydro release (dump valve) is snug / tight, dont over tighten it.
If it is loose at all it will do what your experiencing.

Thanks PJ! I used it today and I will do what you suggest. If there is not any metal is it still ok to use the mower? I was hoping I could get through the end of the season before fixing, but I really don't want to ruin anything. Where is the dump valve located. I would like to guess but I would most likely guess wrong.

Thanks!

I would be very cautious about using it if it isn't right, I would like to catch it before it is more of a problem than it needs to be.
The dump valve is located on the top side of the pumps, it is the bolt head that has a hole drilled thru it.
