I saw a picture similar to this last year so i figured id make my own for this years fall clean up. This thing is gonna cut some serious time off having to stop every two minutes with small leaf gobbler attatchment. I know it falls off at the end of the video but thats because i didnt have it strapped down!!!!

Saw something similar in another color on eBay. Would consider it but here wherever there is leaf work there are knobby roots that surface at considerable distance from the oak trunks. I can't remember where they all are and would tear the bag up quickly I think.

If you can make it work for you that is great, and hope it works as the investment is so small and it is a great return on capital.

You guys need every advantage you can put to the leaves up there.

Ofcourse its gonna drag but were talking about leaves here not concrete blocks!! That tarp full of dry leaves is gonna weigh less then 10 lbs i bet. Wet leave maybe a little more. Its a $5.00 investment for me so if it works and saves time then great, if it ends of falling apart and causing more time on the job then in the trash it goes. But overall i think it will definitely work, who knows i might try it with a more expensive heavy duty tarp

Monster leaf bag is what I saw on eBay. On a really smooth lawn it should do okay, but those are rare here.

Not impressed...gimmicks like this rarely contribute to efficiency in the real world...a homeowner's trick, maybe...and a tarp that size will weigh a lot more than 10 pounds...I know...I've hefted enough of them...good luck anyway and I hope it works for you..

Yup, probably so, but if he hasn't really tried it yet he don't know for sure. Sounds like he has the side bagger (leaf gobbler) held in reserve. He will have to figure the cost of the tarp/bag, the avg. number of hours it lasts, the revenue it brings in those hours, and the labor savings.

Admittedly it will have to travel a lot farther than just dragging a full tarp to the trailer and it will be tear prone. If it don't work it may lead to another idea that does work.

I was thinking maybe a real tough kind of cloth, or PVC shower panel (not curtain) could be attached or glued to the tarp/bag for a skid that is more durable than the tarp material.

btw, that volume full of chopped up, tight leaves is going to weigh a lot.

Also there has to be some way for moving air to exit the bag.

Worth a shot.

Im pretty sure I mentioned this in another leaf bag thread but how about shade cloth? Tough, easily repairable and reasonably cheap. Might let dust out but that also means it lets air out so it will easily pack like a fabric push mower bag.

First off im not doing any large commercial or extremely large residential properties. The biggest i do is probably one acre with scattered trees at best. I dont plan on using this thing till its as full as can be. But lets say with my leaf gobbler i could only make three passes until its full, well now with this attachment i can make ten or twelve passes. To me thats a time saver in itself. No doubt is this gonna rip as i stated before its a $5 creation. I could have spent 50-60 on a heavy duty tarp but i had no idea if it would really work or not. Most of the yards i do are smooth with no tree stumps or roots so the only thing i can see that could tear this is the occasional branch on the ground. Its held together by zip ties so theres plenty of gaps for the air to vent. I did my parents entire one acra property with it and it worked great.

It looks like a good idea. With the right material it should work and last a long time. Maybe you can find a different material that will hold up to the occasional branch laying in the grass. Or have a seamstress sew a big patch on the bottom where it will be dragging the ground.

I wish I had a picture of the rig I made back in the 80's. As mentioned before I used shade cloth left over from a nursery to build a bag that was suspended from a frame made out of 3/8" steel rods. I found that a ground filling design was ineffective as it lost sucking power at the mower quickly. but a chute attached to the mower that allowed leaves to lift and fall in the bag worked better. SInce it never dragged the ground the bag did not wear out at the bottom.

That's pretty impressive, you got your $5 and more back already.

So I used my Giant Leaf Bag all day today and it worked pretty damn good. For $5 i could care less if it fell apart at the end of the day put its still going strong. However, I will be making another one this weekend using a heavy duty tarp instead of the cheap blue ones i made the first one with. I will also be cutting the length down a few feet as I found out theres not need to have 9' of tarp dragging behind. I think 6-7' will do just fine.
I think this is a great idea for any landscaper who has average size yards. Last year I either blew all the leaves to the curb and picked them up that way or i drove around with my grass gobbler which filled up in a minute. This thing has saved me a ton of time just in the first day of us!!!!

I put together a homemade one made out a heavy tarp I had lying around. I ran a rope through the grommet holes and wrap it around the bagger. I pull the rope and it makes a somewhat decent fit. I folded the tarp over and zip tied the halfs together. I used tarp clips close the end. When I go to empty it I remove the 3 clips. Funny looking dragging a 10 ft long brown pillow looking thing? Yes. But it works. Because the tarp is was a better quality, I've dragged it over pavement and few trips down a path in the woods at my own house without any rips. If it does rip, I've have a few more hanging around.

I don't understand what all the ney-sayers are saying. I am hearing "It'll never worl", all the while we are seeing it and it IS working. Wear the tarp out? Come on....it is an 8 dollar tarp (or 5, in your case). So what...If it lasts you a week, you're still doin' good. It seems to be sewn up pretty tight...How does it breathe,...does it vent ok? Personally, I like it. Another thing is, you have greater capacity, but yet you don't have the sagging of the side of the mower that causes uneven cutting that you get with the larger bagging units for these mowers.
