I was hit on the hwy during the week after a quote. I am without a truck for the next three weeks with the exception of a loaner. The accident was not my fault as the guy who hit me made contact with me which forced me off the hwy.

I am bleeding internally and cannot work. I have customers calling off the hook *luckily its been raining daily* but now I don't know what to do. I have let go of two employees and only have one left who cannot plow.

Anyone been in this situation? I have FULL insurance both commerically for my biz and full coverage for my vehicle.

I have to wait till tomorrow to speak with the accident benefits dept. of the ins. company but my bills are coming due and without the ability to work.........i have no way to pay!

Realistically, there isn't much you can do that won't take weeks, months, or years to pay.

Unfortunately you're experiencing the nightmare scenario for most small contractors. I wish you the best of luck bro.

If you need a few bucks to hold you over gimme a call.

lol. God bless you bro...my bills exceed $5600 per month pre employee pay.. A few bucks will help me get to the food bank.

At this point, I don't care too much for the company or the work. I have never been more depressed in my life. The worst part is not knowing what to expect.

Well, the first thing that I would do is contact a lawyer. The other partys insurance should be responsible for lost business and all expenses related to your accident, although, it will be limited by the amount of coverage they have, which will typically be between 25k and 300k.

Second, start calling other contractors that you trust, and try to get the work covered that you will be missing. People will not wait for a long period of time to get their property serviced, or driveway plowed.

Did the doctor give you a timeframe on when you can return to work? I have a kidney biopsy periodically, and one time it started bleeding internally, but I was still back to work after 5 days.

On the one hand I feel sorry, on the other...

...my bills exceed $5600 per month pre employee pay.

Yeah ....

And as much as I hate seeing anyone in a dire predicament, but this is a grave we dig our own selves,
sorry to be critical but I'm not saying it's your fault other than hopefully this is a wake up call towards
doing some long, hard thinking.

Which is not saying I'm perfect, I suppose some thing like this could wipe me out as well
but then I also think it would take considerably more than one hard blow...
Because in this world, them kind of blows can, do, and will come along.
Like yourself nobody can live forever on banked finances, but the one thing I have learned is to cover myself
financially if in no other way than don't take on more debt than I can sustain...

Peace out man, hope I wasn't too rough.

Yeah 5600 is hard to sustain. Although 2500 was to be gone in 12 "easy installments". Life and work is not cheap. I cant see how I could cut back to less. I have great coverage as I have just gone over my policy inclusions and I took xtra coverages.

A lawyer is next on my list. I stated, and can prove a good income of which I should see 80% of.

My family's prayers are with yours. I broke my leg in April in six places, they had me on crutches for 3 solid months. no wait on leg at all. My insurance covered it all. However we lost a few jobs that we just couldn't get to without myself leading. I hired a guy the day before my surgery as a fill in, it kinda worked. I would say i was back riding my zero turn in 2 weeks. Even if all i did was micro mange it helped me keep my customers and the my mind. It also opened my eyes quite a bit. I need to take myself off the work part of my business and focus on securing jobs and being the owner. I will be growing the next couple of years, hopefully enough to the point where im just making sure things are clicking and oiled. This accident could of ended my business, which took me 10 years plus to build. Instead im reorganizing to get back to where i was a few years back, which will ultimately keep me working well into my golden years....

Def get a lawyer. I was in a wreck two and a half years ago and tried to play nice with the insurance company. They will try to settle fast for next to nothing or they will try to drag it out as long as they can. I would get a lawyer and get the ball rolling asap.
