A buddy of mine has a 5x10 tilt trailer that we were fixing up today. He doesn't cut for profit but does randomly carry his ZTR places. The trailer does not have a gate since it has the tilt feature. He is wanting the trailer to stay up when he drives the mower off so it will be easier to load. He is looking for any possible counter-weight ideas or if there were any commercially available products that assist in the tilt feature. He was thinking about welding a pipe which he filled with sand underneath at the rear but found out it wasn't heavy enough and it weighs ~50lbs. Any suggestions?

Just a quick brain storm. You could put some sort of shock under the trailer be it a suspension style shock or one or two of the strut things that holds trunk/hatch on a car open (the trailer application maybe a bit much for these). I wouldn't think it would take much to hold it.
