Is there footings???? Or is that thing just sitting on the ground? Also is that line 18”? Is this your first deck? Is that .40 acq? Most pressure treated in the big box stores are not rated for ground contact. I don’t see any ticos……. Please learn the trade art and skill of building a deck before you build one off the ground.

A lot of good info on there. Worth a read.
there was a concrete patio that the one side is bolted into theres also a half dozen footings on the other side of it, you can see 2 of them in the picture of the joists, they're along the front edge of the deck towards the left, they're in between the joists that are close together there. Also, the old patio is visible towards the top of that same picture, as for the electric conduit its all 18" deep as far as the lumber, the homeowner works at lowes so he got the wood and had it dropped off there, same with the joist hangers, wire, conduit and everything other than the concrete since we had a bunch of bags left over from another job recently

Glad you are doing things correct. You would have been better pouring a slab for the rest of the deck. Now half of it is gonna heave where as the other half is not going to move due to footings. Get ready for some bowing and creaking. How was it working with that lowes grade lumber? Crowning?

i love throwing nails
yeah i know, i told the homeowner that would be the best way but he didnt want to go that way because of the cost so we just bolted it to the slab to save him a little extra cash i just started offering decks about 2 years ago as a service, but we've done about 15 since i've also got a lot more then 2 years expierence with them, my uncles a contractor and i used to work with him from the time i was a kid, another one of my uncles just recently retired but ran a tree service so i kinda lucked out learning from both of them from the time i was a little kid....anyway, as for working with the wood from lowes it wasnt bad but i definately wouldnt buy from there for a project like this if i was doing the purchasing cant blame the homeowner for wanting to save some cash though

i hate when homeowners demand we cut costs where we should not and blame us for problems down the road and unpleasing asthetics:hammerhead:
i did a fence once that had bad 4 by 4's, but she demanded we keep them and only replace the 2by 4's and 1 by 6 pickets!!! i told her that the new wood would not look good paired with unstable rotting posts and the extra 600 bucks would be well worth it for me to do it right. no keep the old posts! fine ya dumb broad so i did the fence and it looked ok:dizzy: 1 month later they want me to redo it on my dollar and i said no screw you i told you the new fence would lean and not be stable, :nono: . so the moral for me was never do it half assed even if the customer swears its ok because they will have a differing opinion down the road. anyways the deck looks great and i doubt that cost cutting will lead to any obvious problems.

thanks, yeah i know what you mean we've had a few customers like that, now i make sure i write up into the contract that basically any future damage that results from whatever it was they forced me to cut corners on is their fault not mine so i cant be held accountable for their mistake

Well, that would fail here. All supports would need to be with a proper footing.
I would just sign the card "Disapproved".
Yes, I am the local Building Inspector.
30 years of that, and 29 years of Lawn Care make me a real double dipper.

since the other siide is bolted into the concrete, thats the footings it needed to pass inspection here, which it did, thats the only one i needed it to pass
