View Full Version : Just shut off the friggin water!!
Our area is in a deep freeze in the next few days.
Big beef from me is dumb sheets that just cannot grasp the concept of shutting the water off. We have a lot of older systems that have a RBird AVB or similar that just does not cut it when trying to blow it out.
Oh sorry, I forgot. Oh sorry, I don't know what a shut off is. Oops, so sorry.
And then having to go back after they get it finally. Should be time for some skull stomping.
Just SHUT IT OFF FOR CHRISSAKES!
Thanks for the vent,
John
We had a hard freeze coming (i.e. a high of 5F...) Don't know what's worse; the idiots phoning around price shopping or the idiots on our list calling and asking to get done TODAY because of the bad weather.
I took the cowards way out and stopped answering the phone.

I hear ya boys. Same crap here. Cold the next few days, and it's much earlier than usual. My phone message clearly states that we are booked this week and to shut the water off or to cover and insulate any above ground parts - pipes, backflow valves, etc. It also weeds out the tire kickers wanting things today. I can hear the copper cracking now, and the bonnets popping off.

My water is shut off Dana.
I guess I should have called HOSK for a blowout but I'm kind of curious as to what kind of damage I'll suffer as well.

Do you have a BF? Say goodbye to that. If the rest of the system is on hills , damage is minimal.

Shut off the water, open every testcock and drain and bleed screw.

And southern flatlander transplant :)
Everything below ground is fine. it is insulated and will be fine until some continuous freezing weather gets the frostline down. Just drain the backflow and manifold and you will be fine. If I have to tell you how to drain it, I'm kicking your ass!!
Oh wait, you made a trip to TX didn't you? So no way to drain it. Well if it freezes and cracks while gone, you could have potential damage inside the house when the water flows back in after the BFV has been spraying and dumping water for days.

i may be a flatlander but I'm a flatlander with a brain stem. I shut the water off underneath the house with that ball valve doodad and opened that little doodad screwy thingy that was attached to it. So PVB won't be a spewin but it may have some damage...kinda doubt it though.

If you didn't open the testcocks and bleed screws, you still have pressurized water in the system.
