well do you do a lot of mulch work? If so how does it get to the jobsite? You or the mulch company. If your hauling it i would consider a 14' open but if you dont do a lot of material hauling i would go with a 14' enclosed. Everyone has said it before that you should always get a little bigger than you need so you can expand. Personally I would go with the enclosed. Looks better, can put your logo on the side very easily, and security.

Whats the point of this thread then? Your answering your own question.

You wont notice much weight difference between the 12' and the 14' open trailers. In fact I bet you couldn't even tell the difference while driving. The only thing with the 14' is that you have more of a chance of overloading the trailer. 14' trailers are the biggest size before you move up to a duel axle setup. In fact you can get a 14' duel axle but it would be harder to find a 12' DA. If you were to go with a 14' DA you might as well get a 16' DA and you would have that trailer for years and most likely will not out grow it, and the Nissan could pull it no problem. Next question, open or enclosed... if you got a 12' enclosed, you will still have the same gvw of a 12 open, 3500 lbs. The problem is you will be always carrying around the side walls and the roof. So when the trailer is empty inside you are still carrying a load, thus reducing how much weight you can put inside. Having an enclosed trailer is very nice for security and keeping the weather off your equipment, and also reduces the need for a garage or storage facility. So after saying all that, if I were to do it, with the equipment you have listed, I'd look for a 12' or 14' enclosed but with an upgraded axle to 5000 lb gvw, a little harder to find.

I have a 24' enclosed and a 12' open. I stopped using then enclosed when gas prices went through the rood and still just use the 12' open daily. The enclosed just stores the equipment at night when it rains. It sure is nice to just park and you are done, no unloading or worrying about theft, but the gas savings and the almost no wear and tear on the truck of the 12' open makes up for the 15 mins of work to unload at night. So I'd say its a toss up. Figure out what will work best for you.

Oh and uhh... Dont haul mulch on your trailer... get a little baby dump insert for the Nissan. You will appreciate having a dump insert more than any other piece of equipment. I think they make them for Nissans and Toyotas. I know they have 6' units for short bed full size pickups. If you are worried about overloading the Nissan with the dump insert than maybe you should scrap all of what I have just said and get a 12' single axle (or 14' DA) open trailer with a 5000 lb axle that dumps.

Good luck.

That's a lot of equipment for a 12ft trailer... It'll be tight on a 14ft trailer as well. I would prefer a closed trailer myself (I have a 17ft open trailer, with high sides, I load up and pull with a Dodge Ram 3500, Cummings Diesel), but you may want to consider the weight to power (Nissan Frontier) ratio-Either way, pulling that kind of load with a 6cyl will beat the crap out of it... you have mountains in NJ don't you? (FL definition of mountain; any grade leading to 10ft. above sea level or more). Given the circumstances, I'd go with a 14ft open trailer (less weight) and wait until I can reasonably upgrade my truck; then my trailer; then new ZTR; then weed wakers; edgers; blowers; house; girlfriend; wife; girlfriend; lawyer; bancruptcy accountant...

I've NEVER thought to myself...."darn, I wish my trailer was a couple of foot shorter."

And that's all I've got to say about that.

Is that a picture of Sandra Bollocks? & Does she come with the trailer?

You've obviously never tried to park in city neighborhoods then.
