I've been in business for the last 3 years as Legends Lawn Care.

Here in Oregon you can't use Landscaping in your business, name or any advertising until your get you Landscape Contractors License. To get that license you must meet experience requirements and then pass the state exam.

I'll be getting the license by the end of October so I'll be adding Landscaping to my business name either way.

Instead of just changing to Legends Landscaping I'm considering Tamerlano Brothers Landscaping.

My brother and I operate the business, we've gotten a lot of positive feedback from customers about that. I'm thinking the change can capitalize on that.

What do you guys think of " last name" businesses.

I like it. Shows the business is family owned, and is more distinctive, setting you apart from anyone else.

I vote against using a "personal" name in a business name. One day, you will want to sell the company and any goodwill with the company vanishes at that moment. Much better to have a "generic" name that can move on to the next owner.

I wish Michigan had a law like that. Here, every guy with a pick-up truck and a lawn mower is a "landscaper."
