I have a 20 year old Walker with 11 hp Briggs engine. When I tried to cut a good size banking engine puffed out a cloud of white smoke & started running rough. When i got back on flat ground it quit smoking & smoothed out. Would this be caused by bad rings? Except for this 1 time it always ran good for what it was. Thanks

If it were the rings it would smoke all the time, Sounds like you exceeded the allowable angle in which the engine will properly run.....

When you mowed on the bank oil got sucked into the carb. From the motor to the carb is a black hose that vents the motor, works like a pvc valve. You can unhook the hose a hook a filter to it and have no more problems.

So I would hook some kind of filter to the vent hose and plug the hole in the carb?

Yes. Cut a small piece of hose off, take to auto parts store. For about 5 bucks problem solved.

For about 5 bucks problem solved.
BUT, Remember...... When you exceed recommended slope degrees on this engine the oil is sent to one side, This could reduce the oil splash lubrication to parts of the engine. We know what happens to engines that are ran with lack of lubrication......
