So, I'm working on my current paver project and I had to grade an area off to be able to raise my sidewalk a little. There is also another area where the grass has died due to equipment sitting for a long time when they did the siding.

Now, I feel it's too late to establish a stand of turf. I was thinking of using a fine leaf fescue in the shaded area in hopes to get a stand. I'm afraid I'll never be able to get a good enough root growth before we get consistent nights of freezing temps.

But I had a thought. I was driving by a field today and noticed Winter Wheat poking through.

I was wondering if I should use something like that and get a ground cover established for the winter. In the spring I would just let it grow, or kill it off with round-up before trying to seed in turf grasses.

Any thoughts on whether this would be a reasonable idea or not ???
