HI, I just purchased both STIHL FS85 and STIHL FS110R for one home residential. I eventually will nail down to two, but I wanted to see which one to keep. They are both used equipment. FS85 was used by neighbor and he broke the head and let it sit for couple of years. Now it did not start up. so, another friend of mine cleaned it all up, replaced all the parts and now working fine. It also looks fine. The FS110R was bought from consignment store. I do not know the history of it except it looks good and runs good.

My question is.. since both are used equipment and do not exactly know what is going on in the machine, but want to nail down to ONE machine, which one should I keep ?? and one to sell ? I paid FS85 for $100. And FS110 for $160.

I know they are both good equipment, but differ in power and emission control blah blah blah. I just like both of them, and can not decide... any wise advice and tips ?

In my case since I already have an FS130, FS100RX and FS85x with FC attachments,

I like the weight of the 85 v the 110 for my needs.

Otherwise the 110 has the power and good weight

I have had about 8 FS-80/85's. I have had four FS-110r's. Hands down the FS-110 wins. The biggest issue is reliability. The FS-85's are difficult to keep running correctly the older they get. They use a lot more fuel. They are lighter however due to having no valvetrain. I bought my first FS-110 in the fall of 2004. It just died for good back in June. I would be scared to guess how many hours it had on it. I have purchased several more and will continue to do so. The fuel savings alone is worth the extra cost. Let alone not having to pull and pull on them at every yard once they are a few seasons old...My.02...
