i have always used echo. last week i decided to buy a redmax. i did a little research and the power to weight was better than any other brand (before anyone says anything, i only compared 3 brands. its what i have close to me) turns out the only thing i "like" about it is that its light. i have had nothing but problems with it. every time i try to use it something new goes wrong. it ran fine for a couple days, other than it shaking a lot no other problems. then one morning i tried to start it and the pull rope stopped, i looked at it and fuel was pouring out of the air filter. i let it sit that day, next day it took some pulling but it finally cranked. next day the freaking string just comes out on its own, gets rapped all around the head. re-strung it did it again, so i put it back on the trailer and got out the trusty ole echo. today tried to give it one more shot, the speed feed head wont turn, now i cant string it at all. anyone else have problems with redmax. maybe ill try shindy next. o its a 2650t :hammerhead:

Redmax makes great equipment. Better get that one back to the dealer for some warranty repairs. I have never heard of a Redmax trimmer with that many problems all at once.

If the right gas is used RM blowers are the most reliable I've seen in 20 years. I've even run 1 without oil..then after it siezed..hit the piston with a rod and hammer...then used it for 3 more years. I have experiance running them 7-8 hours a day (continuously) for many years.

look I wish I had that luck. I have two redmax blowers...one of the big ones (8000 I think) with the large filter and a smaller one we use for our lawn work that is as heavy or powerfull..don't know this model off the top of my head. Bottom line after the first year the 8000 simply lost its power. tried cleaning the exhaust, running higher octane, replaced the carb, it simply doesn't never ran as powerful as off the showroom floor. Had the choke replaced a few times cause the spring or whatever kept breaking off...now we just resort to holding it in place with one hand and pulling with the other. AND the handle broke off at the frame so the only way to replace that is by replacing the frame...might as well buy a new one (echo would be my choice). Not to mention our of the three different brands we own (Echo 603, echo650, stihl660) it is the absolute hardest to start. As far as that little redmax we have, it runs when and if it feels like it. it is extremely hard to start and floods really really easy. starting it in the cold weather is next to impossible...good thing I have the stihl and the echo.

with that said both my echo 603 which is a 2000 or 2001 model and 650 we simpyl cannot run into the ground. we stopped changing oil filter and spark plugs on the 603 (granted we are lucky to use it 20 hrs a yr) and it simply starts 2nd 3rd pull every time...the wiring is all screwed up and everything but it still runs great. I will take the 650 over the 8000 any day of the week. its more comfortable, more reliable, and the cost of ownership has been WAY WAY less than my 8000. We also have the stihl660 or whatever there big one is...its nice and light and is the easiest to start of them all but I simply don't like it.

Now if you want a good laugh...I will take a redmax trimmer over a echo trimmer any day of the week! After two years and 3-4 echo trimmers I moved over to redmax's...they lasted two years...which to me is great for commercial use. I decided to use stihl trimmers...OMG...I thought I hated echo but stihl took that top spot for trimmers.

Redmax is nice stuff. Everyonce in a while every good brand can have a lemon ... just take it back to the dealer and ask for it to be fixed or replaced by redmax.

You sound kinda like you beat the hell out of it. We have blowers that are 10 years old..been absolutley abused by low paid dirt. The only way the arm is breakin is if its been run over, hit, or seriously abused beyond the normal abuse. I you cant start it easily...then theres a problem. Those are simple engines that are easy to start.

Bottom line, all my blowers get treated the same; same maintenance schedules, treatment, work hours, etc. Why have my echo's and the stihl outlasted the redmax's? Now I don't really want to throw the stihl in their cause I've only had it two seasons but so far I'm impressed more by the stihl than the redmax.

FYI, it broke while we threw it into our pickup bed. And don't give me that we threw it to hard or abused it or whatever...the 650 gets thrown in right beside it and it doesn't break. Maybe its because its a flexible handle where the redmax is rigid...not sure.

We will just leave it as my experience with redmax blowers...yours is obviously much different. I'm not trying to start a chevy versus dodge versus ford thing...even though toyota beats them all:laugh:

I have had no problems with my Redmax trimmers...the only problem I had was that one of my EBZ7001's seized up after three years of use. Those sound like warranty issues and if the dealer won't handle it, I would contact Redmax and see what they say.

same here, my redmax trimmer has been running strong for 3 seasons, and it takes a beating, not abused, it sits snuggly in its trimmer rack when not in use

It might in Juwsy, but it don't in Tennessee. Must be a difference in perception.

New shindys are probably bigger pos than that redmax.

I am convinced that all new handhelds are crap, in the last couple years I have got new shindy edger and trimmer. Both are garbage and since found their way to the garage.
I have a new stihl edger that I picked up at the start of summer, it's a turd.
Fs90 from a few years ago blows.

However, any equipment that is older than 4 years still runs like a champ.
That's my equipment rant for tonight.....

The day toyota makes a truck that is a dually and the cab is roomy and can pull 28,000 pounds of palm trees then they are better than American.

By the way how is all the "Hope and Change working" out for everyone?

LOL...proves my point on the "battle of the pickups" seems to be the same with equipment as well.

funny thing is, I own two trucks chevy and gmc...never owned a toyota truck.

Sounds more like the dealer is your biggest problem. I have got lemon equipment before of many brands. Sounds like you just got a lemon. Call the actual redmax company and tell them about your issues and that your not happy. They will likely make sure that your dealer replaces it or fixes it.

i do like my redmax trimmers however after a year or so the carbs start to act weird and they never seem to run the same again...the carbs are also a PITA to work on/ adjust

It could be a lemon but shindiaiwa is a great brand, in my experience with 3 different commercial trimmers I would rank them
RED MAX 2401 (1) Best so far
SHINDIAIWA T231 (2) Great so far ( I just got it though as a spare for the red max)
Echo SRM210 (3) ( I had bad luck with this one, it was stolen :realmad: but when I had it it had a lot of problems)
I personally think all of the five main hand held brands ( Sthil, Red max, Shindiaiwa, Kawasaki, and Echo) all are good and have flaws . See if the dealer will swap it out for another

yeah that dealer sounds fishy ive never personally had any trouble with my redmax trimmers and with that many issues i would probibly just ask for another trimmer. The only thing i can say for sure is that i probibly would be finding another dealer...
