For the life of me I can never remember the name of the tall ornamental grass that is in the background of the first picture in the post.

I know it's not actually a grass, but like I said, I can't remember the name.

Looks like Pampas Grass to me.

I agree, looks like it was thinned out at the bottom. Very tall. Usually the base for pampas grass that size is alot larger. But sure looks like pampas grass to me. Heres a purple one!!

It's not pampas grass. It actually isn't a grass.
It doesn't have foliage or a clumping affect like a grass. Each seed head and leaf is on a single stalk. Almost similar to bamboo but not with the defined segments.

WG, tough to tell, but it maybe Arundo Donax. Very similar to bamboo in look. The straight green to grow to about 12', the variegated to around 9'. Gives a great tropical look.

I've got one other client that has the same plant at her house and she knows what it is. I'll have to give her a call and see what it is. I'll post when I find out, or, maybe Kate will beat me to the punch. It's one of those plants that I've heard the name of, but, for the life of me can't remember what it is.
This plant actually doesn't normally grow quite as tall as it is in the picture. I don't know if it was the perfect growing conditions this summer or what, but they grew almost 3-5 feet taller than normal.
Thanks for your posts

My guess would be Miscanthus giganteus.

I think Your right Kate. Looks to be a Hybrid grass. I must have gotten some disinformation about it not actually being a grass.
