What engine is on the billy goat? I am thinking about getting the 13hp honda engine. Hows your luck been with it? Everyone I talk to love the billy goats and have no issues. All you need now is a truck loader and a dump body and you will be all set. looks good.

John, the billy goat is lighter and has the adjustable chute to control the air flow out. Overall from the guys I've spoke with its a good blower as long as you don't beat it up.
Its a 9hp honda and yah I love my 8001s, have access to a 4th and a br420 as well.

I have the 13HP BG. It has been the best producing blower I've ever had. In fact we have a similar Giant Vac and it almost never leaves the trailer. I saw another guy today with the 18 BG and what a monster it was. Not worth the price increase though. Fradan is fantastic but again considering I can by 2 BG's for the price of the fradan I'll stick with BG. The 8001s on the other hand I'm not real fond of. Lots of power, but heavy. The lower bearings dont seem to be built for heavy use. We kill at least 1 8001 every fall.

PS - set up a security screen for your email at your website. I bet you get a fair amount of garbage mail.

10-22-2009, 01:18 PM
red max now requires you to use 93 octange and redmax synthic oil as far as the billy goat they do blow strong any thing will blow dry leaves by making it lighter they weakened the frame of the unit, the eniges are the same as other blowers but the poly fan heats up after 8 hours of use per day and strips then the crank spins and the fan wont I have seen over 100 it is not abuse it is fall clean ups. My crews will be working sun up to sun down 7 days a week from Nov to it snows doing leaves the little wonder has no issues the billy goats whilr great in theroy just dont last in real world results. I would say if you are not so busy with leaves and use them your self it would be great a lighter blower but at that point get the self propeled fradan with the 18hp. Even the chute cable will get messed up and stop working in 2 years every company has issues when products first come out i would say in 2 more years they will have all the buds worked out on them, but to each their own

John, I agree with you to an extent and I don't like how flimsy the frame looks either, but my neighbor can fab me something if needed. But as far as it lasting, we shall see....lots of guys here have billy goats and love them. Also so what the cable breaks, they all break over time. The chut adjust is AWESOME, I've ran LW's and the chute really helps when moving larger piles of leaves.
We will see how it lasts...
More pictures will be coming shortly! Today was the first day of "real" cleanups for us.

We've been at it for almost 2 weeks now. We are about 15 miles north of J&J. There is a good 5-10* difference almost year round. Our season is about 3 weeks shorter, but we make up for it in snow.
Do I run Super? Not always. Dealer never had an issue with regular when warrantying the blown 8001's. In fact I have a 7001? that has around 2500 hrs on it and still blows harder than the new ones.
Back to the 8001's. I believe that there is a design flaw in the lower bearing. Seems the case tolerances are a hair too loose. Everyone has spun the same bearing. One went out in the first month and again a few months later with a new block, went again this summer and I gave up on it. Another waited 2 years. Most of mine were the first run of them. Not sure if they have addressed the issue since then. I'm soiled though.

Looks great, are you gonna be utilizing the deere much or just piling up and moving leaves towards the road?
I still want to get the billy goat leaf vac for the little leaves we have. We don't get enough leaves to justify leaf loaders. Most leaves are off oaks that are about the size of a cell phone. I just use bp blowers rakes and trash cans and load it into my open trailer.

I just laugh when people say just mulch them....we have such a ridiculous amount of leaves around here. The only time I can possibly mulch leaves (and I do) is in early October and by the end of October it starts to be a real pain. The only other way to do it is if it's in the middle of a huge field where there is plenty of room to scatter them everywhere.

Looks Great! What i started doing this year is mowing the leaves to mulch them up while their in the street and off the property. I can fit a whole weeks worth of leaves in the trailer by doing this. It pretty much turns them into dust and then gets shredded again when it gets sucked in with the loader.

I took today off, first in a while...we were fightin the wind yesterday, wasn't going to do it again today. I'm pretty much where i would like to be so, its a good day for errands/estimates.
I was talking with my equipment shop guys today, the new redmaxs, the 7150s and 8150s are nothing more then simple parts changes. It had to do with the fuel system, the filters, lines, and fuel tank. Something with upgrading those parts because of deterioration and ethonal regulations in the old systems. And by law due to the upgrades they had to change the model number, but otherwise same blowers. Thats what I was told today.

I think it's an OSHA law that you have to provide employees with at least water...
According to the text book for my occupational safety class, required for my college major, it says "Employees should have such fluids (drinks that replenish lost electrolytes) readily available and drink them frequently." "The Safety and Health Handbook" by David L. Goetsch page 95. The book deals with occupational safety practices and OSHA guide lines but is not directly affiliated with OSHA.
It doesn't say water specifically but it's just basic employee relations to provide them with water during the course of their work day. Almost every crew I see around here has one of those big 5? gallon Gatorade cooler/jug things on the truck or trailer

Not yet buddy. We go back the end of december to cut them down, sometimes even later.
They're supposed to stay around until early winter....

Why did you cover up all your DOT tape? Did you really park on a customers lawn?

I didn't cover dot tape, it never had any to begin with. EVERYBODY has dot tape...I used some NYPD 5M reflective blue tape.....
And phuck yes that's on a customers lawn. It was 5:30 at night and we needed to get done, its a 2 acre property and I couldn't afford to loose time coming back in the morning to finish.....way too busy.

Oh, my bad. I thought it looked like you had covered up all your DOT tape with painters tape or something lol. You should get some spotlights of some sort mounted on your back rack so you don't have to drive on lawns.

That blue tape looks like schit! TOTALLY takes away from that nice fancy looking sign you had made. Just looks goofy on the side and its not like people are running into your trailer on a regular basis...looks like painter tape.
Those ornamental grasses are ready to be cut specially with how up north you are. Looks scraggly when the rest of the yard is clean cut and then those grasses are drooping. Not anything to do with you though, we cut all of ours when final cleanup comes.

I may get a yellow version of DOT tape....if its a good winter I'm going to have the trailer sand blasted and painted a customer hi-vis green....also will be adding racks and cage(s).
As far the grasses, some we tie up with ribbon but many customers like the natural look.....they do NOT look ratty at all either way IMO...again they're called ornamental grasses and are fine into early winter......they're a great contrast when you have a light snow fall....the landscape beds dont look so "bare".

I belive most are me leave the grasses all the way until spring. Then cut them back in the spring before they start to shoot.

I've cut ornamental grasses back in late fall to early winter and in the spring before they come out of dormancy. It really doesn't matter when you cut the dead material back as long as you do it before the new growth starts. It looks better to leave them until spring so instead of having a bunch of random crew cuts (as I call them) around the yard, there is some contrast and the beds look less bare and empty when everything else is dead or dormant. In the spring the time between the cutting and the new growth is only a week or two so it doesn't look as bad for long.

I know you have lights on the back rack. But I was talking about something that would get you more distance so you wouldn't have to be parking on lawns. To each his own though. I leave all the ornamental grasses until early spring right before the new growth starts as well.
