going to look and drive a 2000 3500HD tomorrow. Only has 40k on it, with L-packs and mason dump. Is 454, auto. Also ha a Western Uni-mount V. It was just traded at a local dealer and I'm gonna go over today and crawl under it to take a look at it before they take it through their shop tomorrow. Anything I should look for on these trucks that's different than a regular 3500? Thanks.

The only problem the 3500HD has had is front king pins GM put ones that are undersized in them. With a 454 you should be okay there isn't so much front end weight.

I have a 2002 3500HD, last year for it. Awesome truck. How much are you going to pay for it? My local dealer has the same truck but no L-Pack with 40K miles also for 10,500. we plow like crazy with ours.

Check the frame for cracks. I've plowed with almost half a dozen 3500HD's and never had the issue, but I have seen 2 plow trucks in my dealers service department with frame cracks.

It's rare for it to happen and likely requires a unique set of circumstances for it to occur. It's about the only thing I can think to tell you other than normal wear and tear.

They're awsome trucks. Bull strong.

The 3500HDs used for tow trucks cracked behind the cab but that is from the twisting. I think GM installed a frame insert on the later years.

The two I've seen cracked had plows and salt spreaders mounted I wouldn't mount on a truck below 26K GVW. Hence the reason I said unusual circumstances.

looked at it Sunday. Truck is itself was good, needs door pins (sagging a little). Plow looks ok. Dump body needs the headboard fixed (welds are broken) and dump body is a little beaten up (looks good for 9 years old though). L-packs need work, half the doors don't have locks, and some of the hinges are falling off. Rear tires are in great shape, needs fronts. Went today (truck went through service yesterday) to drive it. Dead battery. They put a jump box on. Motor ran beautifully, nice and smooth and no noises.

Went to raise the plow, wouldn't do anything. Everytime I hit the power button on the plow controller and hit a function (up, down, etc), you would hear a click (from battery area, didn't really look) and controller would turn off. Went to raise the body and it killed the truck. Dealer is gonna put it on a charger and try to get it to work. We'll see. I think it's either battery or alternator, but I didn't look into it to much. Dealer said "11.9k." Not sure what to offer. Thinking around 9 since I'll have to put a little bit of work into it and if they get it to run no problems. Worst they can say is NO lol.

No plow. Truck is in Chicago. I looked at it Sunday. It is clean. I know it is far for you but what you just described on the other one you would probably love this one. Let me know if you needa phone number for it.

I would just make sure it doesn't have a chevy sign on it anywhere. Might make you look like a Redneck... :)
