i have a little seawall to set. all limestone boulders in the range of 500- 3000 pounds with the majority being around 2500 pounds. Now i dont need to reach up into the air with them but rather down below me but i do have to reach out in front of the blade about 8.5-10'. Do you guys think a 305c cr will be able to handle that kind of weight?
personally i dont think the machine will come close to it but i have a chart that says with the blade down a 305 can lift 5,622 pounds @ 10' NO WAY!!!
i would hate to rent this machine only to have to send it back and get something bigger.
please help!!

I don't think it will I tried to lift a 2x2x6 concrete block with a 305ccr it weighed like 3500-4000lb and it was all it could do to lift it with the blade down it. I had a takeuchi 145 on rent one time and it handled the block better.

How do you plan on setting them? grabing them with a thumb or do you have to strap and set them. Using a 305 with a thumb you shouldn't have a problem rolling and grabing them to put them in place.

a thumb for sure.
i just want to be able to haul the machine with my trailer and pick-up so i dont have to pay out 400 bucks for transport.

I can pick up about 2000lbs with our takeuchi 135 mini (8k) machine, the yanmar 55 (12k) machine will pick up at 3500lbs catch basin up close but thats about the max, being a zero turn its a little hairy if you swing any lol.
what is a 305 about a 10-11K machine?
a good rule to follow is the machine will most likely pick up a 1/4 of its weight

The only problem I can see is once you get the boulder down it will have to be in the place it is going to sit. You will only have one shot to do it. Lift the rock till it just clears swing with it so its only couple inches off the ground. Get it to the bank and keep it close to the bank and slowly lower it into the spot. Keeping it close to the bank will help you from going over the bucket will hit the ground.
Anything can be done just takes a little longer. You can roll the rocks into place if you have too.

The lift capacities are with no bucket or thumb.
The thumb and bucket weigh 1000 pounds so keep that in mind.
Without a bucket my 161 would move the boulders that weighed in the 3000 pound range.I actually picked them up and swung them 180 degrees and lowered them into position. It was tough.
Picking them up with a Bucket and thumb there is no way you can do it safely with stones 3000 pounds. These are the boulders. I set them from up top. The big one on the bottom was the only one that was a problem.

I used a 341 bobcat to set 3000 lb culverts and it was tippy over the side but stable in front of the blade. I would bet it could handle your rocks but the cat 305 I rented did not have the power the 341 had and I don't think it would pick the rocks up let alone 10 feet away

So are you going to buy one in the future ?
I watched a 305 working on a job near where I work I was impressed with the machine did better than its competitor 161 Kubota.

i have a few things to buy first but i defiantly feel MUCH better about the capabilities of a machine that size. However i would like to try out a conventional tail swing mini like a volvo ec55 or a comparable taki.

thats a sweet little machine! im going to have a tilting bucket and a coupler and a thumb on it at all times i i dont "need" zero tail swing so i think a conventional tail will feel better balanced.
