I’m thinking of getting a skid tank 200-300 gal of diesel for my hunting club. Right now we have a tractor and a CTL and hope to add a few other pieces of equipment. Now I bring diesel in the transfer tank in the back of my pickup and going to get fuel when needed is getting annoying. Here and there I would think the diesel would sit in the tank. It would start to get condensation and some gunk right?

I know they make fuel polishing systems for boats but has anybody ever heard of something like that for a skid tank? You guys have any other ideas?

Thanks

we have a 1000 gallon tank at the shop and fuel has set in there for years and have never had a problem.its been filled and pump down dozens of times and never cleaned. the pump sucks a few inches off the bottom so all the gunk and crap stays at the bottom of the tank.

We have a 500 gallan tank at our shop and we have never had any problems either. Ours doesnt get drained down that fast (sadly) most of the winter it really goes un-touched and just sits.

Guess I would have nothing to worry about. Anybody else have anything to add?

First check with your local laws on fuel storage. Here you can't store anymore than 300 gallons in a single wall tank. You pretty much need a double walled tank.

Is this going to be gravity fill or you going to pump out of the tank ?

With a gravity tank you will need a good filter hanging off the outlet because you will get more crap that wants to come out. If you pump it say with a dip tube that is 6 inches above the bottom there is less chance of crap.

A bottom suction works good if you use lots of diesel fuel it doesn't sit and you don't loose any fuel. If this tank will sit and the fuel doesn't get used often then you need to have a top suction.

Also another thing to check is what is the minimum your fuel supplier will deliver. Around here it is minimum 250 gallons or they charge you extra delivery charges.
