Anyone know anything about a Atlac Copco hyd hammer? Have a chance to buy one that is on a skid mount for $1500 obo. Owner said it works good, and the nitrogen charge is good. Has not been used a whole lot. Never had a hammer before. What do I need to look at? Thanks

Looks like the brand Cat uses.
Jiggle the point and see how much wobble it has, if it has a lot, it's gonna cost you some cash, but they are good enough.
Look for a serial number and do some research on the energy and blow power.

Yea check the bushing by wiggling the tool. The best way to guage is to use it. Research what its ratings are and then demo it on some thick concrete. That will tell you what you need to know.

Thanks for the help. How much play is too much at the point bushing? How big does the hammer heed to be to get some work done? Thanks

Anything bigger than 500 impact pounds is good enough, a good way to check that with out even trying it out is (1) measure the diameter of the point, if it's over 2 1/2", it's over or darn near the 500 pound mark (2) the actual weight of the hammer, it should be close to the 1000+ pound mark.
Both hammers that I have owned, one had a point diameter of 2 1/2" and it weighed over 800 pounds, that was a 500 impact pound, the second one I owned had a diameter of 2.75", and it weighed 1000 pounds, with 725 impact pounds.
The rebuild costs vary, for the lower bushings and new point, you can pay up to $1,000, and internal seals and nitrogen chambers add up over time.

Thanks ron. Does $1500 sound like a ok deal on it? Thanks

It's definitely cheap, I've seen Cat hammers with 700 pounds of impact go for $4000.
