Anyone have a rough idea on what a junkyard tranny might run for an 01 f 350?
Thanks

Why would you want to take a chance on a used transmission. The R4100 transmission is problematic. Spend the money get a rebuilt upgraded transmission and never worry about it again.

you can check car-part.com, might be a little cheaper to find a used or use one as a core for rebuild

at a regular junkyard about 300- 450, a u-pull it you could walk away with it for 75 and with obama's great idea (lots of sarcasim) of cash for clunkers you may find an almost brand new truck with absolutely nothing wrong with it (except extreme internal engine damage from being run w/ sodium silicate instead of oil to 'kill' the engine) sitting in the junkyard

Yeh start searching junk yards. You should be able to find one decently cheap.

I don't know where everybody gets these prices but I paid 3200 installed 3years ago. The truck is a 96 F250 and currently has 200K and had 170K when it was replaced. It is a motorcraft reman. and came with a 3 year 75K miles warranty. This transmission has been trouble free and tows daily. I would never trust a used one especially in a truck that you earn your living with. The trannies today are very complicated compared to the C6 and TH400 from the good ole days. Good luck with your decision. Matt

Nothing can beat the Torqshift but you can only have one behind a 6.0 or a 6.4 or a newer V-10.
The E4OD that was used in the OBS Fords was good if you had one built. I know one guy that has the stock E4OD in a dually PSD and he pulls some good loads with it.
I don't own automatics all my trucks have been manuals. I had a 1 ton dually with a automatic it got removed and a 4spd went into its place.
It is alot of work to change a transmission so why put a used one in and find out oh chit this thing is junk. The biggest problem is these wreckers pull the transmissions out the year and what it come out of is marked down but the mileage the truck had is usually forgotten.
A automatic transmission usually gives you signs it is starting to fail. The first is slipping and sluggishness. The second is the fluid is burned and smells.
The transmission usually doesn't quit with no warning unless you have blown a cooler line and it pumped out all its fluid.

Or it could just be a sensor, or a solenoid, or a bypass, or blown internal seal or a lot of other things. I rebuild trannies at my day job several times a week. There are a lot of things that can go wrong and what its doing will tell you what that is most of the time. Before you throw another one in it, take it somewhere that can properly (Key word there) diagnose it to make sure you don't have a smaller problem on your hands. Example, I picked up an Isuzu Rodeo this summer that supposedly had a bad trans free for haul away. Got it hauled to work, crawled under it, had a broken cotter pin on the shift linkage. 10 cent cotter pin and had a nice free 4x4. Had a Cherokee this spring that should've had a bad trans, picked it up cheap, just had a bad speed sensor not letting it shift right. $30 and had a nice Grand Cherokee to sell that has been to Iowa and back this summer with no issues. See if you can diagnose the tranny or take it to a knowledgeable shop. I don't necessarily mean a Ford stealership, but a garage where they know what's inside the trans. Might save some money.

Something internaly snapped and blew right thru the case. My wrench is checking with a bud of his who has a rebuilding shop to see what he has around.

I guess it is a auto. Just find a wrecked flipped over truck in the junkyard. This would assure the truck was moving so the transmission obviously works. How good I guess you will find out. I just installed a 4r70w into my f150 from upullandpay for like 100 bucks works great came from a cash for clunker 30 day warranty.
