I have several farmers I have jobs lined up to do with my skidsteer. I am now building a 60'x60' barn pad. The customer wanted the pad bigger than what was needed. I have cut one end down 6" and built the other end of the pad up. The customer has supplied all the fill dirt. Im doing this job by the hour but just was wondering what the rest of you would charge? Im sure price varies from location to location but what would an average price be to cut and level this pad? I have a price in mind and wanted to see how close I am to everyone else on here.

How many days / half days did you have in it?

Building pads are always built beyond the footprint of the building.

Are you compacting anything or just leveling existing material?

Any concrete prep?

Are you digging footings or is it a pole barn?

The barn actual size is going to be 40'x45' foot. We allowed room for the trencher to come in and trench for the footer. He also wanted to make it a good bit bigger in case he wanted to move the barn around some. All I have been hired to do is cut and fill the pad. I have just been packing it with my skid steer and where going to bring the 9610 combine up and run over it to pack it some more.

It's hard to tell you really how many hours because originally he wanted me to do all my measuring with the laser on the high end from a grass point. That would have made my low end have to be built up 1.6 feet before any gravel or concrete was added. This is the end that he will enter with equipment. I tried to talk him out of it and let me dig down the other end. I explained to him that he would have to have a steep ramp to get into the barn. Well I went ahead and did what he wanted. We hauled in 100 tons of dirt. When the project was almost finished he decided that it would be too steep now that he can see what it looks like and told me to tear it all out and take the high end down. Anyway I have tore out about 3/4 of it before it started pouring down rain. All is going good now with the pad.

I do work for a pole barn guy and usually get about $600 for a pad like you described. That is not compacted, but leveled out with positive drainage on all sides.

He actually had me cut it down more like 7 or 8 inches on the high end so the low end would only have to be built up about half what originally it needed to be.

If all went as planned Im guessing I should have been able to easily have it done in 10 hours.

I would probably get about $800 for a full day's work, if it could be done in a day. With all the screwing around, changing the project, I would want more than that. Sometimes it's better to be charging by the hour. Glad the customer's problem didn't become your problem.

If you're only doing about 6-8" of fill, walking it in should be good enough for compaction.

What are you using for a skid loader? I charge different for both of mine.

Im using a 250 Series II mid size skid steer. I just wanted to know what you guys would bid the job at. I did remove the vegitation which included some sod and fully grown corn stalks.
