I decided the other day I need to get a larger trailer for how I operate. I haul my mowers and clippings on the trailer because I have a fiberglass tonneau on my truck.

Anyway, Im looking at a 16 or 18ft open trailer and I wanted to get a listing of manufacturer websites and people's experiences with some questions.

Questions:
1. What is the manufacturer preference on the trailer brake controller?
2. I have seen the sizes i am looking at offered with and without the beaver tail? What is the advantage other than the shorter gate?
3. Some trailers offer brakes on both axles and some offer only on one. Are there more problems associated with brakes on both axles?
4. Any type of construction or bad designs to lookout for?
5. What is the largest side gate out there? I was snooping around and found 48" except my WB has a 48" deck. My plan was to load the equipment on the front of the trailer with the side gate. Then dump my clippings on the back to allow for easy dumping without removing the mowers.

And finally If I could get some manufacturers listed. I know of appalachian, majestic, and big tex. What others are out there?

Thanks

Texas Bragg makes a great trailer. In my opinion the best there is. I have 4, one is 12 years old and is still going strong. But the brand is Texas Bragg.

Check out Belmont Machine (http://www.belmontmachine.com they are produced in PA. I have a 16' 10,000GVWR model (got it used for a great deal) - very solid trailers. Mine was ran into a solid object on one fender before I got it, it bent only the end of the angle iron, no other damage.

Also there are a LOT of dealers in PA to choose from, might be able to do some price shopping that way!

Only downfall is that the trailer weighs 2000 lbs empty! So if you don't have a truck that can handle all that weight, you'll squat pretty good :hammerhead: - I need airbags in my F250. I have a feeling most trailers are pretty heavy at that size and quality though.
