What symtom do hydrostats display when they are starting to fail? Do they slip, jerk or just quit?

When the pump quits does the wheel motor have to be replaced too?

Best I can figure from reading everyones posts commerical gas motors wear out around 2,500 hours. What is the life expectency of the hydrostatic pumps and wheel motors?

Please take a minute and share your knowledge?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

It all depends on what mower you are talking about, my scags last for a year or two tops (800 hours) whenever my pumps go out I feel the difference and hear the whinning (louder) before they go. You don't have to replace the wheel motors when the pumps go out and I have never had to replace the wheel motors on any of my mowers (2000 plus hours)
