Just like it says do any of you drive a dump truck as a daily driver? I will be getting a new vehicle in the upcoming year (prob used). I recently went to the ford dealer to price and drive a 09 f250 and f350 pickup I found that after rebates and my ford family discount either one would be 27,000. But weighing out the pros and cons of a dump truck over a pickup and too me i would get much more use out of a dump truck but I don't know if I want it as my daily driver. What's your guys thoughts? A little more info: I am mainly a lawn care and snowplower and salter, but will do lite landscaping

No, I don't. It takes way longer to run errands, that's what the S-10 is for.
The only way I would use my dump as a DD is if the wifes car broke down and she needed my truck until we go get her a new car. (Hers Sucks, when it breaks down, I'm not fixing it.)

You can think of maybe getting the 250 and buying a dump insert, but I'm not familiar with your situation (i.e.-how much you haul, what you haul, etc.) Or if you buy the dump, you could buy a Ranger or something like that to run around. Plus, if you have to drive somewhere on a 200 mile round-trip, I think you would rather take the small vehicle than your dump.

I probably would if I had to. One of the owners of probably the biggest landscape company around here drives a F450 flatbed dump as his daily driver. What you could do is get a short wheel base 350 with a dumping flatbed, then have a set of taller sides you could throw on when you need to carry more volume, mulch, brush etc. Or set up a pickup with a dump insert. If I had to have only one truck, it would be a super duty 350/450 with a dumping flatbed no doubt.

I drive a F-450 with a 12x8 dumping flatdeck as a daily driver. The truck weighs 9800lbs empty. I get 12mpg with the truck.

I've taken my F-650 to the grocery store before. Get large toolboxes to put stuff in.

yea man, I love driving my dump truck .
I went for hot dogs the other night with a dumpster on the back .
The truth is i get calls from my trucks advertising , so i drive it all the time .
It costs a lot of money for fuel but every one knows my truck . All my trucks have singes , even my wife's ford Excursion but the LCF cab over is very unusual with 8 large singes on it. The dumpsters have 4 large singes .
I troll my neighbor hoods with a trailer and equipment just to stir things up . My LCF get about the same mileage as my F350. Im working 7 days a week any way so i need the equipment . John

I drive a 3500 stake body daily. I can get around fairly easily, only a few places are a pain largest being some of the driveup teller lanes.
I would not get a 350/3500 dump truck as they have no legal carrying capacity. If you dont want the 450-550 because of rough ride for daily drive go with a 350-3500 pickup and get a dump insert eventually.
I personally am leaning toward a 2500 pickup or a 5500 dump. The 2500 is much better as a daily driver but the 5500 is better for the growth of business for me. Ultimately though it will come down to if a deal presents itself like with my current truck or if I have to order one.

Not true. You can get a cab and chassis F-350 with a GVWR of 11,000 pounds. My state automatically gives you 1000 pound leeway by issuing 12,000 plates.
My truck is an 87 F-350, curb weight of 7300 pounds, and I can get close to 2.35 tons. Not a huge load, but big enough to get by.
A 3500 or 350 with a dump trailer is the way to go. You can get 5 tons on some of them.

Why are you looking at a brand new truck? Get a 2000-2005 reg cab and get a dump insert. If you have your hart set on a dump, I've got a 96 i can sell ya.Save your money and invest it more on equipment

My daily driver is an F250 PSD and I just had a dump insert installed...The fuel mileage just got a little worse so I am in the market for a smaller, more fuel efficient daily driver so I can delegate the gas guzzler truck to work related and other specialized work. Selling my Harley to get a fuel efficient vehicle...

I drive my 82 K 30 with a dumping flat bed on it everyday. For awhile i was driving the 12 ft stakebody everywhere, it gets really decent fuel mileage. NOw i am looking to get an 06 2500 HD D max... new daily driver. I would have 4 trucks then....

I've driven a 450 dump and a 350 dump and it was fine. The bad part is you are putting extra miles on the trucks.

I drive a ranger. But I find I drive my service truck which is a F-350 dually diesel most of the time. Its old, its smokey, its loud, but I just like the thing.

I drive my F-450 to work because I owe money on it and plus the fact letting a 6.0 PSD sit is the worst thing for them.
I only put 1000 kilometers (621 miles) a month on my truck I live close to work and I don't use the truck for sunday drives that wastes fuel.
