now i know we need this to make stuff turn green and grow... but this is getting rediculous. week before last we got it 3 days in a row. last week 2 days in a row and now they are calling for it to start at about 9 tonight and rain hard thru tomorrow at about 3pm. plus the temps will be in the lower 60's. when's it gonna stop? i've been hoping you guys that NEED it would actually get it instead of us. anyone got a combine with a hay bailer i can use? :D
We've had 4 inches of rain since Saturday morning and 5.1 inches in the past week. Need to double or triple cut most yards. My father-in-law has a bailer if I need it.

Again I say...........
Mike If anyway possible bring it down into Florida.....
Hoping for some rain Monday....30%.............
In all seriosness it is really dry here.........
I know that is the reason that the phone has not been
ringing.....
But when it decides to rain...It seems like the grass grows
2'....and the phone starts a ringing.........

It is my guess that in each area, we will experience the same weather that we had in 2000. The El-Nino is building in the Pacific much in the same way it did 2 years ago. In NE Ohio, we had rain 2-3 days a week all year and cooler temps. Sure is shaping up so far.

i'd love for you guys that need it to get it. i can't make any money with it raining and you guys can't make any without it growing. have they imposed watering restrictions yet?

we have a flood watch in affect right now here until tonight. been raining pretty good since yesterday afternoon, quite a few thunderstorms too. it has its pros and cons, i lost two customers, one because he wasnt satisfied with the cut (already double mow it at no extra charge, bag the back no extra charge, it grows very high so there are still clumps) second lawn i lost cause the guy didnt seem to comprehend the fact that i was a day or two behind because of the rain...... good part is they were my two furthest lawns and i picked up two more within a minute of my other lawns!! the two new ones i picked up are about half the size of the two i lost but only charging $5 less!!!! so much for mowing today lol!

Yep raining here again in PA.
Matt just got us all caught up last week from the rain by working 13 hours on Saturday.
We were all ready to start a fresh week, and now we're delayed.
We will cut in the rain sometimes by picking and choosing certain lawns are more "rain friendly", but right now the ground is totally saturated and we're left sitting here.

We have been averaging 3 out of seven days without rain....the big problem is that it is getting more saturated every week....The temps started off in the 80's in April and has been going downward ever since....it's been hovering in the forties & low fifties for as long as I can remember....It's getting to the point that even walking on the lawns is leaving impressions! NO MORE RAIN!!
The ol' birdbath/rain gauge show we got about 2" dumped on us again last night.
I too wish I could spread it around to those who are lacking rain...we have had inordinant amounts of rain over the last couple of months.
I bought a rainsuit early last week and have done the 13 hr shifts (in the rain) to stay on track....ran all of the lawns TWICE to bust up the dregs. My compost pile is getting out of hand...tons of deck scraping over the last week.
It is supposed to be clear for the next few days (and I finally got caught up saturday night) so today is dedicated to deck adjustment, maintenance, ordering a new Turf Tracer HP 36" w/ECS (YEAH!), and recooperation from last week. ;)
I'm not taking the 'optional' pontoons and rudder off of the Lazer yet though...
Whew, I'm tired...but thank God it isn't bone dry! :D

I've been able to keep up, but I'm tired of scraping decks also!

rain is starting to piss me off........ Yesterday was great, nice and hot, I even had to take my overshirt off and work in a tee shirt when I was barking some landscape. Today, It starts off ok, but by noon it's raining and a cold front moves in, the mulchers just don't work great when the grass is wet and I'm forced to bag some of this grass. Basicly I just gave up and called it a day. Lately I've noticed since I've let my employees go and I'm working by myself I've gotten somewhat lazy, I just don't want to mow yards when it's raining and would rather just go home and pick it back up the next day if it's nice.

Unfortunately this is my lawn. Second flood this year. Sometimes get 5 floods per year. Never too deep though. It gets within 10' of the house and garage.

Well, this is my back yard, about an acre but you can't see it all in these pics. It has done this last december about 2-3' deep most places, then partially flooded alittle in the past week and a half, then it did it full force again. It comes within 6' of my shed with stuff in it
There is a small creek at the back of our property here (at tree line) and that creek goes into a larger creek, but they're both stopped up, so so is our yard. Plus, what feeds most of this is a culvert (3' diam.) that drains rain from across the road onto my yard   but if it stops up, it floods my neighbor's basement
So, if you can't beat them, join them :D Here you see me and my little brother with my little inflatable boat. Yes, we really launched it with the garden tractor and trailer but the trailer has a wooden bed and tires that hold air, so it floated up when we tried to trailer it when we were done. Got alittle trollin motor on back and it scoots along good. Don't say we dont water our lawn enough! cause it's filled up at least half this way before this year, in the past week or so.    :p

Here's the boat. We could even drive onto the neighbor's pasture off to the right (shown in first pic) it was fun actually. LOL thought about taking a fishing pole out and just trying. In December when it did this, there were a couple bluegill in there I saw. This was yesterday, and it hasn't gone down hardly any over nite. The thing is, my bro graduates Saturday and I need to have the yard spick and span (or is it spam? No, that's the canned ham :p ) but I can't if this U^*&%&* water doesn't go down!    :blob2:  (we are having people over afterwards)

heygrassman:
We have some lawns that have some really thick lush turf. Not a weed in sight, very fertilized. Those lawns we don't cut when it is pouring down rain. It just ain't happening here with us. I know people say they cut in the rain, but I don't see how these kinds of lawns can even remotely look good without clumping, ruts, huge grass stains over the driveways etc...
On the other hand, we have some lawns that are 2000 to 4000 sq ft. most located within a two block radius. These lawns aren't fertilized, and all are owned by the older generation. They can be managed to be cut and still look decently nice when they are wet. They are just way more manageable.
We have a lot of lawns. And we try to cut most every 7 days. But if we have to bump one up to 6 days because it is more manageable to cut when it is wet out and let another one go to 8 days that is too lush for wet cutting, we will do that.
We play around with our schedule to keep us cutting the most we can.

There has been water about 3" from my back door of my home. It has not rained that much here in a while but I worry when it does I do not want it coming inside. If it happens again I will get some pics.
