Accepted your request yesterday, thanks for checking out my you tube video too by the way. I need to update it, the quality is not as good as I would like.

No problem Tim! Your video is one of the best I have seen. Most are super cheesy.

I don't know anything about Twitter except that a lot of celebs have people "following" them...

Meanwhile Joey... I mean Unique and I are already Facebook friends. Unique seems like the kind of annoying user that laughs at his own jokes though... or at least he "likes" his own updates :-)

for the BIG big picture, I recommend reading this
http://thechaosscenario.net/blog/chaos_scenario_sample%20text.pdf

It a little outside the scope of a lot of small business. Marketing now takes a whole new line of thought.
You can throw a stick(google) and hit something with regards to HOW to USE....any of the social media platforms.

I liken it to this. Because I mingle with local groups, Chambers, busines breakfast, card swapping etc. I was sitting next to a banker on day, we'd met a few times. He said Tom, why isn't your company maintaining our property. I said I don't know, I'll come see you.

Then one day I get a call, so and so at the bank gave me your number. Now I do an HOA.

From that HOA, come several residents, some who also have commercial properties.

All that from 1 point of contact.

Thats how twitter works or it's supposed to but you still have to work the room.

Joey, what is the Landscape Lighting Resources Book? Is this just product info? Also, I have a Facebook account and Linked In account but in my name not the business'. Should I have both or is that not necessary?

JoeyD
12-04-2009, 10:52 AM
I would strongly encourage you to create a FB for your buisness. Linked In is more for you personally.

The Landscape Lighting Resource Manual is a book written by our owner. Although it does highlight some Unique Products it really is the best book written for the landscape contractor in mind. It discusses in depth design and installation techniques as well as business and sales strategies and offers up lots of good technical info.

The new edition should be available in the coming months.

I am not sure about having a FB PAGE with your business? I think a group would be better so people and link you & your business as the same. I have started a group for "Wuz Worth IT". I am now trying to figure out how to give people gifts with the "Wuz worth IT" stuff. So I would think doing a group would be better instead of doing a page in your biz name. Plus the other reason is that I do not want to have 2 different logins. Then I do not want some folks seeing my pics on my personal page.

I do not understand the twitter thing.

I do know that facebook is alot of a different kind of work to networking. Having to post on peeps pages and send messages, etc. That is my .02

Someone else will have to chime in on how it works, or to give me some pointers. I do feel that the more followers, post, or tweets you do the better off you are. Under twitter my user ID is wuz worth it.

Hello Joey,

Was that you who requested to be my friend in Facebook? Unique? I have facebooked up with a couple business contacts on my personal account, but think I might be better served to use a business related facebook account?? Although, it has been nice to see everyone's families and worlds on the other end - I am not sure everyone should be so open. Anyway, if that is you friending me on facebook - I will gladly accept.

On the training manual note, I have not read Unique manual by their owner. But, I can attest to the helpful aspect of CAST's training manual to my crew. It also helped me as a designer - black&white disagrams of specific lighting techniques has been used by myself to sell and grow. Locally, Dave B. is the only person and company providing any training or instruction. Locally, his class at Rutgers has taught many the basics of landscape lighting. Where can I find the Unique manual?

I am glad I finally got setup with lawnsite. On facebook, I know I am friends with Tommy, James, Gregg C, and a few others related to the lighting world. I would not want to be friends with everyone, or friends of friends - more because I do not know them. If you want to see some photos, I think I have about 16,000+ images of my life (edited of course)

Best,
Tanek Hood

That would be me on the Unique page. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=profile&id=100000124034732

The Landscape Lighting Resource manual is going through a revision and will be available sometime in the coming months. I will be keeping everyone posted. It is the most comprehensive and detailed book in regards to lighting design, installation, technical troubleshooting, sales, and maintenance. No other booke esists quite like it.

It was written by our owner and founder Nate Mullen who is the inventor and insperation for systems employed by CAST and many others around the industry. I am sure that if you like CAST's system and teachings then you will love ours. This is not a knock on CAST as they have done a fine job promoting and developing their business over the years. They have done a great job and are a great company.

Joey, both of your pages need much more action! They're both pretty much dead. Just an FYI.....your twitter link at the beginning of the thread is not good. The same goes for the one on your sponsored board. The same also goes for the link on your actual website. All bad links.

What is it about the lawn care guys here on lawnsite that inspires them to list all of the equipment and machines that they use? I don't get it.

I have to agree with you on this. It's not the size of your 'tool', it's what you do with it.
