So i finally got the chance to run the new bobcat s630 today. I Even snapped a few pics of under the cab which was a big improvement. First things first they did a great job with this machine. Getting in and out was just to easy i couldn't believe it. The visibility was great to the cutting edge and the side visibility was very good as well i was able to see the back of my tires with no problem what so ever. For all you guys that thought the rear visibility was not going to be any better because of the cab being moved forward you got it wrong. The rear visibility is def better then the current models. It slopes down making it easier to see. The visibility to the top is AMAZING!! you don't have to strecth your neck at all when loading just sit back and relax..

Cab was very roomy and i like what they did with the handles bending them in makes it more comfortable for the operator. Also has a ton of leg room at the bottom and a much easier clean out system. I love where the throttle is on this machine i caught myself a few times forgetting thinking i was in one of my other machines but its something to get used to..

Machine was quick, smooth and powerful i actually felt i was running a bobcat s220 but this machine is nicer. I was going into piles with no problems. It would kick the hell out of my s205. Overall i was very very impressed when next spring comes i will be in the new m series bobcat.

They have cleaned up the guts pretty good its not a nightmare to work on anymore.

It will be curios to see what Doosan does to them.

They turned the valve bank sideways to make it easier to get to busted lines, and with all those lines, I can see 7 areas where lines will rub and chaff through after 300 hours, looks better, but no one can beat Cat's under-the-cab layout.

Anyone can see the 7 areas, hoses that are too close to other lines.

Even if they are 1/4" apart, they can rub together, considering how much work I get with my dumping hopper and all the vibrations a CTL gets while loaded with that much weight up front, oh yeah, there's gonna be some issues.

Rubber hoses are not bad it is the hard lines that rub are bad.

After 100 hours of running you will see where things are rubbing.

It takes a long time to wear a hole through a hydraulic line. Get some zap straps and start securing what ever has excessive movement.

Even before I signed the papers on my T190 in 2003, I had the dealer wrap yellow hose armour around all the hoses that were too close, and sure enough, 4 years later, 2 hoses rubbed through the armour guarding.

farmerknowsbest
11-06-2009, 09:59 PM
Ron, if those are 4 wire hoses wear won't be an issue. Chances are they are only single wire however. I agree with GR. Keep an eye on things, if wear is occurring get out the wire ties and old tire tubes and start protecting. Even on your precious kitty you'll have to do that eventually. :D

How many hours was this?

2007 it had 1400 hours, the main drive lines from the pumps, they were tight to each other and the armour wore right through.
Keep in mind that I averaged over 500 hours per year on the jack hammer, an attachment that eventually killed both skid steers pivot pins and cracked the loader arms on the T190, jack hammers are brutal on any machine.

It'd probably be 2000 hours before it ever hurt those hoses doing typical dirt work..

Junior, you need your CAT safety glasses to see the 7 areas. In fact, if you put them on, you can see the Bobcats steaming like a fresh a doo-doo from a big dog. I personally do not wear those glasses and can see what Mr. Sops saw when he looked at the machine.

Interesting poll was done of major brand skid steer owners. Most often heard comments where as follows:

Bobcat Owners: "My ass/feet/arms hurt"

Case Owners: "My ass hurts" and "My ass hurts more than usual this time...." (heard said by case owner after minor service)

JCB Owners: "My ass hurts"

Mustang/Gehl Owners: "My ass hurts"

Takiuchi Owners: "My ass hurts" "....My spine hurts"

Cat Owners: "....My ass hurts just looking at those other machines"

Owners of Junior M: "....Hell yeah his ass hurts"

Now this is just a smattering of the most common comments. Now I know the truth hurts and I fully expect some sort of backlash here. When your ass hurts emotions tend to leak out...*among other things* So break out the hemorrhoid and pucker up and let out the feelings my friends, us CAT owners are here to help you through the hard times.

Blows it away? I think "maybe" caught up would be more accurate. Just because Bobcat decided to care about ergonomics for the first time doesn't make it the best.

Let's put it this way. There is no iphone beater because the iphone defined the genera. Cat X series defined ergonomics, systems layout etc, Now M is catching up. At the end of the day I would say that Bobcat is playing catch-up to both Cat and Case especially in this regard.

There I just tossed Case a bone.....sweet mother that hurt

As someone who went from a K series Bobcat to a C series CAT and back again, I can say that after 8 hours in any machine, my ass hurts. I will admit to all who hear me, that I am a born again Bobcat fan, however, I will give CAT it's due. Ergonomically, the air ride seat is very good. The air vents hitting you in the face suck and the dust in the C series cab sucked but other than that, I liked the C series CAT.
With that said, I am not uncomfortable in my K series S330. On the whole I feel good in the cab. I hate the air vents and the A/C system needs help and I could use some more leg room (im 6') but overall I'm happy in there...did I mention the air vents sucked?
So, if the M series has caught up, surpassed, or even made an honest attempt to get there, Bobcat will have a winner in the comfort department. A lot still remains to be seen for those of us who use the larger frame loaders. If Bobcat comes out with a 9500# plus, high power skid in it's next release, then I may be looking at CASE series III. I am hoping Bobcat keeps the weight down and the power up.. (I still wonder why the S330's motor can't go in an s220's frame for a serious digger?)
Anyway, the world is changing. A number of manufacturers have enviable features and I'm sure this won't be the last time we get on here and stick our feathers out for display when something new comes down the line. Personally, all I have ever wanted was an 8500 lb machine with 90 hp, a little torque (now that I know how important that is) and a good or great air conditioning system.. I thought CAT had delivered but we all know that the torque was low and many of you know my A/C problems from my CAT 272c. And yes, I do miss that machine. I just don't miss the downtime I had.

Hey, I really did look hard at Case. Seriously.

But there where 3 problems:

1) Middle of the economic disaster so 2) Case didn't have any Cat pattern machines in stock no where they willing to bring anything in for me 3) I didn't fit, the stupid bar rested on my thighs, my legs are long so the bar couldn't go down far enough and was outside of the adjustment capability of the mechanism.

Seriously I gave case a good go. In the end the Cat provided more of the right things for me so I went for it and I have not regretted it yet. It's been a great machine this year so I am looking forward to seeing how it works this winter.

Re vents. I have no idea why you where having a problem with the vents blowing in your face Yellowdog. all of the vents rotate and they are mounted quite low, in fact to get them to blow in your face would take some time to plan. Not saying it didn't happen, just thought it an odd comment given the setup.

RE the dust, I haven't had any major problems with that, but I do clean the filters quite often. Anything that is effective at filtering is gonna clog up fast. But I do understand some of your issues where more specific to the work you do and prior to the filter update.

As far as them not getting the machine you wanted to demo, that can be a tough deal, I wish dealers would be more accommodating but I also realize that moving machines around can get expensive (not that, that is a good excuse). As far as a machine not fitting, sometimes that happens, you get into a machine and it doesn't fit either physically or mentally. My hats off to you trying out what was available and bought what you felt best in. Cant ask anymore of a customer than that.

Not enough room to rehash all my issues but they are buried in other threads. The vents all face forward and when the AC system sucks debris in, it blows out of the vents towards you. In TX heat, if you don't point vents towards you, you won't cool off.

CAT put in updated filters and other areas leaked (under cab) clogging the evaporator. The machine just wasn't ready to be released into the mulching operation here. Overall, the machine was a winner and CAT knew I liked it but they were unable to meet my needs at a specific time. If I could get a promise of a more responsive service dept., I would consider CAT again especially as the C series evolves.

The series 3 I looked at earlier this year had holes about the size of my little finger around the window, and I could push my pen through the seals between the 2 side windows.
As for the couplers, I noticed when KSSS posted a pic of his big mama with his grinder, his couplers we so high up on the loader that I thought if I owned a Case, I would never get my loader high enough above the cab for reach with out shearing off the lines for a combo bucket or jack hammer, that's all Case's loader design.
