I'm going to read the links from Gregg in depth when we get back to the campground, but did I read they're banning ET and sensor-based clocks?

Wow Gregg that second link is very interesting. Who wants to join me in joining that site? Should we take the irrigator parade with all its warts over there? Would they benefit from our hissy fits?

You want us to do your reading and interpreting for you? Why don't we join the site and fight like cats and dogs.

I think I can pull that off, it was just a comment, after all.

Not a ban really. One site member seems to be accused by another of spamming on the topic too.... but that first poster seems to refer back to a business that does irrigation management and claims that businesses will want to maximize the amount of water they apply to landscapes during allowed water windows/ days.
He takes an interesting point of view... and if "smart" controllers' are as "dumb" as some of the reports suggest he may have a point. OTOH, it looks like he's looking for an "out of the box" sales angle for his services to me.

Well I don't think anybody is going to be joining that site. It takes dues. Bummer..I had so much to say too.

I didn't see anything about dues... but these are the charter sponsors:

I dont know, I was just browsing through them. I'm not sure of the time frame it will take me to get comfortable... They have proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, and even indents in their repsonses which have no "fun" at all associated with it.
Could I actually enjoy a true "professional only" forum?
Maybe we just need to add some spice.

Where is the fight? That report is severely lacking in many regards and IMO while the results are interesting they should not be held up as "proof" that smart controllers don't work.
If one so desired, you could pick apart that study to the point of making the results nearly irrelevant.

Like everything it is only as good as the contractor. The issue in CA is more a money issue. Anything costing the state money is going to get discredited if it can be is my guess. Luxury water use, which landscape is when you get right down to it, is going to end someday. How we get there is the real issue. At least this way the industry dies slowly and everybody has time to make career changes and future employees gravitate to other services.

I started the ball rolling... No contractor installing the clocks is just the beginning, but probably the biggest reason for failure, IMO

Not really relevant in this study. More than 50% of the controllers were "owner installed".

I would tend to agree. Anything to shovel that money into some other politicians pet project.

Will landscapes go away ... probably not. Will regionally inappropriate landscapes go away .... quite likely.

Whether or not a contractor installed the controller does not mean it was programmed correctly. How many professionals plug and run? Probably most.
Furthermore, smart controllers, or any controller, cannot make an inefficient system efficient. The study assumed 100% efficiency (pg. 98 para. 2), which is clearly impossible for any system that is irrigated based on calculated demand. Based on my experience most systems I see would be lucky to hit 50% AE, let alone 100%.
