EXMARK.
Really, the best mower for the $$$ would depend on what type of yards will you be cutting. a Dixie won't be too good going through 32" gates. A walker is a good mower for grass collection but the are known to wear out motors fast due to lack of air flow around the motor. Best mower for the buck is an Exmark 36" metro belt drive with a 15 hp kohler. $1999 in alot of areas.
You never mentioned how many yards you have to cut or employees working with you. There are alot of determaning factors that help in the decision of what type of mower you will be buying. Next look for the best service out of your dealer. No mower will be good if you can't get it serviced by a good dealer.

everyone has there own opinion. I have been a dixie chopper man for years and tried just about everything from exmark to ferris to whatever I could find, now I am switching to bladerunner mowers they are the best mower for production mowing in my opinion!

I have tried a little of everything as well and I agree with rebelmachine on the bladerunner. However you might take a close look at your accounts and also your local dealer. After all the best machine made will someday break and you will need service.
i think u picked two pretty good brands.
exmark ,hustler, and several others are also good. dealer support is probably what should determine ,what u buy.
i think u are on the right track tho.

if ztr are what your looking at I would look at these in no order. There all great and have there own quirks. Walker, exmark, dixie, hustler, ferris and great danes. these are all good. If your looking at wb i would look at hustler then exmark and toro. But buy hydro not gear driven. You will be much better off in the long run. I think you would be happy with any of the brands mention

Not too expensive to buy and very productive machines with little downtime and easy to repair.
Also, the new Kubota ZD21 and ZD28 look like a great value on a liquid-cooled diesel ZTR, comparable in cost to many gas models, yet with a real diesel engine.

I asked the dealer why they do not sell exmark.... several reasons....one reason what hit me was that exmark's parts are very high... Is that true?

i just replaced a spindle on my older lazer . 61 dollars installed. last year i took a customers mower in for the same .
mtd i think. 75 dollars at an independent

I too am giving you my two cents worth. Because you do not give much detail, in general, the Exmark and Scag are well engineered.
My Exmark stripes awesome, but the Scag rides better and seems to handle the wet, thick stuff better.
Part for part the Scag is the hands down winner.
Good luck!

I have both a DC and a walker, both are great machines. If you have alot of small accounts and need to bag go with the walker. Big accounts lots of flat land and no need to bag go with DC...I hope someday your company gets big enough that you can have both.....I just sold all my accounts and moved to a new area so im starting over I do all small stuff here so I sold my DC...I know I will regret it but if I ever need a mid mount agian I will look into the blade runner or another DC. Another thing to look at is if you have lots of bush, fences and low trees to get under the walker is great for this. I also have a Exmark 36" Hydro walkbehind it is a great all around mower and has saved me when it comes to getting through gates.

There are some good mowers around here like John Deere and Exmark. Personally, I like the John Deere the best. Why? John Deere is know for quality and excellent dealer support. Most of time they will have the parts in the next day when you need it. If my machine ever break down, they will have a spare mower for me to use until it is fixed.

The best mower is the LOCKE. A 70" Locke uses a 8 hp honda
and cuts 70". My 60" Scag needs 22 hp .

I think the dealer should be a very large part of your decision. I would like a walker because I do a lot of residential yards that I bag; however, my dealer is not the walker dealer around here and in fact the walker dealer is in another town about 30 minutes away. I buy all my stuff from this particular dealer because he treats me very well, ( If I need something repaired right away he comes through for me, etc.). I had another dealer when I started out who ended up selling the biz, the new owner did not treat me well so I found a new one who would.
Most commercial machines would do anyone well. However, any machine will need reapair and parts at some point. What good is an Exmark, DC, or Walker if your dealer can't or won't be able to fix it for a few days or week?

Don't really know what the best is because we've only used a few. But, our Bunton 61" ZTR can tear up the grass with its super fast blade speed and we can mow some acreage with the 11 mph ground speed. It has a 25HP Kohler Command Engine. One of its best features is the hydraulic blade height adjustment. LOVE IT! We've had it for three years and we've had to replace one hydraulic hose (it split -- Florida sun is brutal). We had to replace the electrical switches because of getting caught in Florida downpours in our open trailer. Got an enclosed trailer to protect our equipment. We replaced the front fork twice in the first year, but its been fine since. The dealer/manufacturer upgraded the back of the mower with an extra brace for us. We've been real happy with it. It's a BIG, Mean, Green, Mowing Machine!!!

The best mowers for you maybe determined by your accounts! For instance if you bag all the time then you might want to consider a walker, cougar or a grillo king? If you are into production mowing then a mid mount would be your best choice. Of these it would be hard to say who is the best between say dixie chopper exmark, hustler or even the new guys the american bladerunner. And of course there are many others all of which have there bendfits! The one thing you need to look at is your dealer support, because it does not make any diffrence if you have the best in the buisness if you do not have support to back it. After all every manmade machine is going to break it is just a matter of time!

GO WITH DIXON!!! I have ran Dixon ZTR mowers for several years now, and have found them to be extremely dependable mowers! I currently run a Dixon 304 30" rider, Dixon Zeeter 308 30" rider, and a Dixon 428 42" rider. I have used them all very hard, and really like them! If you are mowing medium to small size yards they are hard to beat! The 30" machines can do small back yard jobs, that would be impossible for larger mowers! I would certainly recommend them to anyone!!
Hope this helps,
Neal

I use Husquvarna. The John Deere ztr's are made by them also. Got that info from a Deere dealer that sell both. I run a 42 and 61 ztr's and they are great. In fact the nascar stripes are done with Huskys.
Happy mowing!!!!!
