PJ,
could you tell me what pressure my pumps should be putting out on an 06 25/60, it has about 1200 hours on it and we are getting a little bit of chatter when taking off from a stop in the left side, we have already changed the hydro oil, filter and pump belt and also dropped a magnet into the tank but didn't get any shavings to speak of. Doing all of this seemed to help but didn't totally eliminate the chatter and was just wanting to make it right for the 2010 season! Would I be correct in assuming that I am probably loosing a pump or is a wheel motor going bad?

Its not just the pressure you need, you need to use the whole procedure of testing the pumps and you need to have the proper bi-directional testing gauges.
It is more about knowing the acceptable gpm “flow droop” on the particular models of pumps.
This is something your dealer can take care of for you.
Here is some trouble shooting for you.
Engine speed low Adjust to correct setting
Control linkage bent, loose or out of adjustment Repair or replace vehicle linkage
Drive belt slipping or pulley damaged Repair or replace drive belt or pulley
Oil level low or contaminated oil Fill to proper level or change oil per page 11
Excessive loading Reduce vehicle load
Bypass loose Tighten bypass
Air trapped in hydraulic system Purge hydraulic system
Inlet leak Check all externals to BDP inlet
Inlet filter clogged Replace filter
Suspected internal damage

You need to know the whole test process, what engine RPM's to test at and when to take your readings on GPM and pressure, it is a whole process, along with the right set of pressure gauges.
Its not as simple as a pressure reading.
This is why this needs to be done by a dealer that has the proper equipment and experience testing the system, you can do damage to the pumps by testing them the wrong way and or for to long.

This has some info for you:

You would need to look on your pumps and find your exact models there. Also the flow meter/guage setup costs about as much as a new pump...so unless you do alot of pump testing....you are probably better off taking it to a dealer that has this equipment.

How many dealers can really do this ? In my area zero. Hint either better educate your dealers or find new ones. Hustler is a great company I wish your dealers were as good as you guys.

Sorry Henry,
hate to burst your bubble, but I'm a dealer, and any commercial dealer should be able to do this for you. Just for your info, a Hydrogear 21 series pump like on a Hustler super z should be checked at 2800 RPM"S , and flow droop should not be more than 2GPM to be good. There is a process to get the oil up to correct temp before performing test, and there are some things that need to be disconnected to test properly.
ANY good dealer should have a Bi-dirrectional flow meter. We test any machine that is in for a hydro problem before any teardown or "Guesswork" unless it is locked up or big pieces of metal are in the reservoir.Go to www.hydrogear and find a dealer near you. It's a no brainer that any Hustler dealer that sells commercial mowers should be a Hydrogear dealer.
