Hello comrades,

We are trying to grow as a business, and right now we are just doing fall cleanups, by blowing into the woods. I want to purchase a truck loader, so as to shred the leaves, and get them into the back of the box truck. My question is, how do I charge for the use of the truck loader/truck. I'm already charging for backpacks and labor.

Add the use of the truck into hourly labor fee and include any dump fees including travel to and from dump if any apply.

Tools like leaf loaders and skid steers ect. can be either billed at a hourly rate or used as a method to maximize efficiency to stay competitive. A large clean up that would normally take 8 hours for 4 guys without loader for 1500 can be cut to 4 guys 5 hrs. for 1500 By the end of the season you are far ahead of your competition by less hrs worked more income earned. Tools like these also can be used to gain market share over time by allowing you to have lower charges with higher income by lowering labor cost on your end. Thats not low balling thats smoking your competition.

I just got a loader this season which has sped me up. I charge hourly until we are done, then I add a set "dumping" fee which will cover my time to dump and any fees, fuel. Everyone gets charged this flat fee which helps the bottom line at the end of the day.

i charge $100 a load to haul leaves. if im quoting a lawn, i build it into the price. if i dont need to haul the leaves i may choose to haul some simply to save time blowing them long distances. my $100 load is a 12' dump though and a load is considered firing up the loader ($100 min, i dont charge $50 for a half load). it gets tricky because we do season prices for fall cleanups and may be at each house 3 or more times to stay ahead of them. if we do 1/3 loads each time we charge for one load for the season. that being said, we can fit multiple lawns in a load. make sense?
