Excuse my ignorance, but what is a ZD28?

I think it's a Kubota ZTR (?)

You are right it's a Kubota and they are mowing machines. I have 2 zd21's with 60" decks and lawn vacs and now own 2 zd28's with the the 72" decks. I really doubt there is a ztr out there that is as well built. Its hard to beat that liquid cooled diesel.

this thing will stay on the side of a hill that i would've bet money that it would not. i should have bought 2 of them. my turf tiger didn't hold a candle to this mower.

Just currious but do you see any hairline fractures around the anti scalp wheels on the mower deck?

None apparent on my ZD21-60. Are you asking if the deck itself is fractured? I find that very unlikely, but nothing's impossible.

The only reason I ask is because there is a guy down here that has one that he bought last year and it is cracked on both sides were the scalp wheels are. I personally think that he just got a bad stamped deck.

rwleigh,
Is this guy with the problem the same guy you said had a blade clutch problem? If so it sounds like he must be rough on a machine, as I have yet to see anyone else besides you post a problem with these mowers.

Actually yes he is the same guy, and yes he is hard on equipment. But as I said I was currious if this is a problem or not, because I have only seen three maybe four of these mowers in use.

I know what you mean. My dealer had nine a month ago, and there was only one left last week when I went by, yet I have yet to see one out in the field. Then again, I don't know that I have been actively looking either.

Is the kubota you are talking about the one sitting a bill's?

I asked my dealer about both of these problems (he said he has sold nearly 50 of the ZD21/ ZD18's) and he has not seen it on any of them. He said the only things he has seen them for besides service and normal wear/tear items is the hood rubbing the fenders (some update kit is available and they are installing it from the factory on all serial #'s above 40000) and some parking brake problem on a few (won't release unless you pull up on the engage pedal while also pulling lever). He has had one dropped off of a trailer, but I don't think that can be blamed on Kubota, so those repairs are not defects or flaws. He said most of his sales have been commercial so I would think with some over a year old that many would be in for more problems than that. So far, So good!

i just had one brought to me for trade-in on a Dixie that only had 80hrs on it and the deck was cracked on both sides.

i don't understand why manufacturers still make stamped decks (much cheaper to make i guess)

this one also had a lot of play in the front end.

the owner is hard on equipment, but with only 80 hours, i would say that it is very poorly designed.

kubota makes great engines and nice tractors, maybe they should stick to that.

treat yours well, maybe it'll last you a long time,

........but my money goes to machines that at least have fabricated decks and other quality construction features

CaptDevo- Can you post pics of the deck? I am curious to see this.
