View Full Version : Anyone use the Oregon Blade Balancer?

I did a search and nothing specific on this one. I know the magnas are the best but I would rather drop $75 than $200. I got anal about blades this season and it showed in quality of cuts. So this spring I am going to ditch the nail in the wall. How do you like the oregon unit?

Anything is better than a nail stuck in the wall. Even those goofy little cones.

Don't know anything about them, but will next year as I ordered on yesterday after reading your post. I have a Magna-Matic blade sharpener, and couldn't be happier, but just could not see $200 in one of the balancers. I figured I'd take a chance on the Oregon for $88.90, shipping included.

I have the magnamatic balancer and I am extremely happy with it. I had to return it due to metal filings got trapped in the slide. Operator error.
They fixed it and machined it back to specs. With no charge other than shipping costs.

Get the mag, without a doubt the best product out there and with customer service that can't be beat.

At less than half the price of the Magnamatic it's more than worth a shot. Like Richard said, it's better than a nail in the wall.

I have the Oregon blade balancer. Previously the only balancers I have used is the nail on wall and a plastic cone balancer. The Oregon is much nicer but is sensitive to mounting. The mounting base must be vertical, otherwise it seems to bias the level. I have also had 2 issues; 1- sometimes the blade is not properly centered on the cone, I find it works best if place blade on cone at an angle, move magnet to blade and then in a controlled manor rotate blade into position against the magnets. 2- if your skin is between the blade and the magnet when the magnet snaps to the blade... ouch!! Those magnets are strong!
It works much better than the plastic cone/nail in wall and it works well enough that I find it hard to justify the extra cost of the magnamatic one.
