Curious...with this type of business, is your tax rate for the money made mowing, etc about 50%??? I do some occasional side work where I basically work as a contractor and the IRS hits me at about 50% :( I was wondering if this is about what you get hit with? So your net profit may be about 55% before taxes but after taxes is it more like 27% or so?

Any business should be able to make it with a 30% margin. Then shoot for a 10-15% increase a year. That alows you to grow steady and not get to big to fast.

Thats awesome!!! For every dollar you bill, you profit .70 cents over and above all expenses???? I wish the margins were that good in Ohio. I gotta move!!! ALCGreg says he gets $60/hr to rake leaves in PA. I dont know where to relocate... My profit margins vary from the maint (mowing) to the outdoor kitchens ($40,000-$50,000 jobs) I will know how this year ended up soon, but I dont think I will avg 50-70%. Keep up the good work!!! :clapping:

i make 500% profit. about 200,000 a year. Oh yeah, I'm also only 12 years old and I mow full time already, and I bought all my equipment, daddy didn't buy any of it.

Ya, that's nice, but you probably don't have any expenses at the age of 12.

Re-visit this thread in 15 years and let us know how you are doing.

taxes? what are these taxes everyone is talking about. We accept cash only, drive minivans filled with extension cords and no seats, and oh yeah we use our customers equipment.

Hey, I like your concept. Very low overhead. Do you actually own the minivans, or do you borrow them for a day, switch the license plates and replace them the next day.:):)

We do a long term borrow, dont ever give them back. We also have a couple boxes full of tags out back.

I was being sarcastic guys. I think some didn't see that. Just taking a shot at all the "teenager" threads on here where these kids claim to make huge money and have 2008 trucks and new mowers and trailers, and they claim they paid for it all.

i can see the humor. i have seen some come up quite nice in our area though, but never quite that young.

When you say "profit margin", I am thinking that you are talking about retained earnings. Meaning what is left as "profit" at the end of the year after ALL taxes, expenses, payroll, etc INCLUDING your own paycheck. Last I checked mine was around 6%. But I give myself a nice paycheck that brings it down some....
