I've been reading about this product and it seems a lot of people like it. I've never seen or used it. Sounds like it might be worth investing in though.

Do you use it and why? What do you use it for? Looks like it has many uses. My primary use would be for my eXmark deck, battery terminals and maybe more. Let me know your thoughts on this product. They say it's slimy/greasy and never dries out?

I just picked up my first can, and haven't used it in any applications yet. My plans are similar to yours, for the mower deck, battery terminals, etc.

I'd like to hear other's experinces too...

fluid film is without a doubt the greatest stuff ever invented (next to duct tape:laugh:)

i use it on so much stuff it's takin me a few days to put this together cause i don't wanna leave any uses out but, i prolly will anyway:laugh:

use it on the mowers, string trimmers, gas hedge clippers, pole saw blade, hand pruners, sidewalls on tires, rims, undercoated the trucks with it, locks, hinges, polished the plastic bug deflector on the truck, coated all the lights on the light rack, the mirrors and brackets(minus the glass), tailgate latches, rust spots on the trucks to keep them from getting worse til we can fix them, the receiver hitch, dipped the trailer balls and shank in it, dipped the extra balls then put them in a jar, polished the diamond plate toolboxes, use it on the cb antenna's to keep ice from building up, the rams on the plows and plow pumps, gonna coat the blades once they get put on, i'll use it in between 2 pieces of metal that are being bolted together, keeps drill bits from getting hot and smoking, helps drive spikes into 4x4's, wiped it on my mailbox, spray some inside the socket before removing lug nuts and the nuts fall right out of the socket, anything that squeaks but shouldn't, at work i've used it on the cardboard baler, the tracks on the bay doors, the hinges on the loading dock plates, a little on the plastic connection of the battery cables on the power jack and they slide in and out of each other like nothin, stopped the hinges and lock rod on the garbage shoot from squeaking and rusting, works great on saw blades, helps keep the blades sharp and cool. about the only place i don't use it is anywhere you need to step/walk. before i put the trailer away for the winter i wanna crawl under it and undercoat that too. help repel the moisture from the wooden deck. whether you spray, brush, dip, dab, glob, or dunk. whether it's a little bit or a generous coating fluid film is the best:cool2:

Best product I have ever used for lubing screws hinges, bolts, under decks (our Gravely loves it)even the ice cream machine (it has bands outside and we use rock salt) I am addicted, you will be to, hands down it is the best anti-rust product I have ever used, period.

i used it on my mower deck a few times and it didnt help one bit with sticking grass, i find it easier to just jack the mower up in the morning before i use it and scrap the deck.

I use fluid film in my locks after leaving the coin op car wash. It doesn't have the smell that WD40 has, or Amsoil HD spray.

I use it on everything: mowers, trimmers, dingo, atv, car parts, door hinges, kegerator seals, outdoor patio furniture hardware...that's all I can think within the last few weeks.
Which reminds me I need to pick up some more.

32 inch bop quickie---

coated in fluid film-1-3 minutes to clean the deck

not coated in fluid film- 15 minutes to a half hour

i'll stick with fluid film:weightlifter:

I assume you need to thoroughly clean the underside of the deck for it to work right (clean it well before spraying it)?

Oh and how long does one regular can last? Let's say I spray the bottom of a 52" exmark deck....one can will do it right?....then how much left will I have for other things?

Yeah, scrape the deck really well before spraying with fluid film. I have a 52" Toro deck and the way I do it is for the first time or after not treating for a while I will use most of a can to apply a real thick layer. You should still have a little bit left to use for smaller applications. But after the initial treatment you should only have to do lighter treatments which a can should last you 2-3 applications. This is just the way do it. I'm sure there are other opinions on this.

I clean under the decks with a pressure washer once every ten hours or so. I try to work around cutting the early morning or during rain, so it makes clean up real easy! No spray required!

No problem, I don't do that as often now unless I run out of bulk fluid film, but before buying the undercoating gun this is how I did it.:)

I love the stuff, heres a new use too, I do some wood work around the house and was having trouble getting some 3 inch screws getting into so good oak, instead of soaping the screws the fluid film was on the work bench soooooo, worked well. Plus I use it on the locks on the trailer, the hitch ball, the truck door hinges, the mower deck, andthing thing that moves and needs lubed or can rust, it even worked well as a lubricant for my extension ladder.

Hello again. Awhile back I remember seeing a post with a link to a place that sells Fluid Film cheaper than any place I've seen it. It was sort of like an industrial supply place or something like that. Can someone give me the link to the site again if you know what I'm talking about?

Thanks

Just got my free sample - thanks, man!

I have some small rock chips in the paint on the bumper of my truck and it's starting to rust a little in those spots. I was curious if fluid film will in any way harm paint if I put some in that area?...the finish, etc. I thought I read it was completely safe on paint, right?

That's right. It's perfectly safe to use on a painted surface. In fact, if you have an old, oxidized paint job, it will actually shine it back up. :cool2:

Thanks for the "heads up" on this product. Anytime you can get a bunch of guys to so agree on something, it must be good!

I just ordered 6 cans to try it out. Searching around I found it for $5.95 a can.

Will certainly try it on my deck but I see myself walking around with a can in each hand going "ok, what next to spray"....should be entertaining. I hope my wife doesn't walk too close or she might get a dose too!!

WOW! I ordered this last night right before I posted (around 6:30 PM I would guess) and the 6 cans I ordered arrived at my house this AM, before 10! Talk about service. And shipping for all 6 cans was only $5.25. Pretty tough to beat that. Not looking to promote any companies or sites, etc..., particularly if others sell this here, but McMaster-Carr really came through on this one. I have never purchased from them and just pulled their name from these forums. Thanks again for the information on Fluid Film and also a nice surprise to find McMaster-Carr as well. I am sure they will get future business from me after this service.

Has anyone figured out how to search www.mcmaster.com specifically for fluid film? I know a link to the 12 oz can but I can't find a way to find fluid film in general on their site. I want to see their price on a 1 gallon can. I'm seeing a 1 gallon can on some other sites for about $38.

Yes it is very hard to navigate. I've seen it for about $38 on a few site but not many. I'll just have to stick with that. I wish I could find some local suppliers that stocked 1 gallon cans for a descent price. Most places have never even heard of Fluid Film.

I'd like to see bigger places sell it...like Tractor Supply Company and so on. That would help keep the cost down. The local Deere dealer is asking a little over $8 per 11.75oz (or whatever it is) small spray can.

Dano - Just to make sure I understand - are you saying that it can be used like a wax on a vehicle or are you saying that it simply won't harm a painted surface if you spray a rusting area?

Dano50

You could use it like a wax on a vehicle. If you have an old faded paint job, you will really notice a difference.

Thanks, Dano. I did use it on the top of my truck, which is faded pretty bad and it did help a lot. Next time I was my truck, I'll try it on the rest of the body and prolly the plastic parts too.
