This time last year i bought a brand new 26hp EFI Walker GHS. i stopped by the dealership yesterday. I paid $11,100 + tax, put 435+ hrs on it. A brand new replacement is $12250+ tax, and he will give me $8500 for the used one. thats a difference of $3750. i like the reliability of a new unit. Is 1 year of use worth $3750? I also may need too spend some money for tax benifits. what do u guys feel is it worth it to get a new unit?

It cost you $8.62 an hour to use it if you were to trade it in at that price. Was it worth it? You tell me. If you want to spend the money then I say do it. Doesn't matter what others thing.

Its never a good idea to spend money to avoid taxes. At best you are spending a dollar to keep from sending the government 35 cents. If you want or need a new machine, then go get it. If your accountant is telling you to do it for tax reasons, time to get a new accountant.

Never ran a Walker, but from what I've read, they can be very reliable upwards of 2,000 hours. So, maintenance aside, keep it for 2000 hours and it costs you $5.50/hour to run. Get the new one at $12250 and run it for 2000 hours and it'll cost you $6.12/hour to run. I'm not a numbers person. but some simple math tells me the longer you keep that machine, the less per hour it costs you. Grated, this does not include maintenance, but I don't think the cost of yearly maintenance would surpass what they would give you on a trade in.
