Has anyone ever gotten into the bamboo market? If you have the space it seems fairly easy to grow and sell. Is there any money to be made in it? Ive found some bamboo nurseries online where thats all they sell. Wanted to see if anyone on here has tried to grow and sell their own grove successfully.

Ive heard the stuff is dangerous to grow. Nightmare stories about it taking over and not being able to get rid of it.

My father grows it. He doesn't sell it. It has been growing in a 6ft round area in his front yard and hasn't spread anywhere else. Personally I think it is ugly unless I'm on vacation.

4 seasons ... hit the problem for bamboo in this area. It is invasive, can't kill with anything, need to dig very deep with power equipment to have any chance of getting rid of it. The idea sounds good, fun to watch grow so quickly in the Spring, but spreads fast, and then impossible to eradicate.
In this area, very bad idea.

I have some that I transplanted from a customers to my back yard. Its huge now and all I did for a few weeks was give it some water.
I'll bet its worth $$$$ but you would need a crane and mini x to get it out.

Anyone that even fathoms the idea of growing this stuff on PURPOSE should be dragged to the street and shot while a large crowd cheers.

Weve put bamboos in that are clumping. You cant buy spreading bamboo over here any more, for good reason. We have the room for it and it serves a purpose as a screen.
Weve even put one in, in the paddock, that will reach about 25 metres. Once its mature we may be able to sell the poles.
This is it... http://www.bamboowholesale.com.au/html/latiflorus.html
We also have...

They are only young and I keep them trimmed so they wont get out of control.
I believe they are difficult to propagate, hit and miss kind of thing.

I can't believe that Japanese Blood Grass is too invasive to sell and Bamboo isnt yet. I will say that if you do plant it, your neighbors can sue you to remove it from their properties..............

It can cross under a one lane street to the other side and grow, but not a two lane street.
If you hit bamboo with radiation it turns into Kudzu.

Yeah but the roots growing underneath the pavement can also PUSH against
the blacktop and create cracks, where it can sprout in the middle of the road.
Tough ain't the word, I've sent GALLONS of double-strength Gly after it, I doubt it hurt it much thou it did slow it down some.
There ain't much double-strength won't kill, even Ivy doesn't stand a chance, but bamboo does (actually so does moss but bleach kills that).
Hmmm, wonder if bleach would work against Bamboo?
Oh yeah, to answer the question I ain't thinking of growing it on purpose, no.

To the guy on Australia you are right there is non evasive bamboo.
To all the others you need to do a non evasive bamboo search and see what you come up with.
I install 12 different varieties that dont spread. They clump and stay on a 6' radius.

Times change and plants change. Kinda of like your northern indoor plants we use for regular landcaping.
Some of you need to start re educating yourselves before you go blab information that is partly incorrect.
