I'm in the market for a 36" walkbehind, I have noticed the price diffrence in belt and hydro is there any problems with going to a belt drive for a secondary mower?

As a secondary, as a backup? I dont see why it would be a problem if you aren't going to be using it a whole lot, advantages with a hydro are: easier maneuverability, I think they are easy to maintain, no slippage of belts when wet or on a hill, automatic reverse and no switching gears when needed.

For a secondary a belt drive should do fine, hydros are the better machine obviously, but you will do fine with a belt. You should watch this thread for more info also http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=298554

I saw a floating deck 36" toro t-bar belt drive with 15hp Kohler on ebay a week ago for just $800, and that was with a bagger. I believe it was located in your general area. It looked to be in decent shape but got no bids. You might try looking them up to see if they still have the unit for sale. I had that same machine years ago and was satisfied with how it cut and the t bar is easy to use for a belt drive. Assuming it runs well that's a bargain.

Here is the link to the completed auction at ebay

Wow that looks like one solid mower. I would check that out if I were you.
