I have been working on this pile of decked logs piled over a small bank I got tired of trying to roll 80 pound rounds up the hill to split it. I got a 5/8s cable that my old man it had swaged eyes on it but one eye had some damage.

Set up a snatch block from one of the trees and ran the cable through it and up to my truck where I could get good traction. Second log I yarded the damn eye let go

It was good I learned years ago how to cut wire rope with a axe and hammer took a little time to cut through the 5/8s cable. Unwrapped two strands and made a farmers eye in the cable another thing I learned from the loggers.

Sure nice to pay attention to what the guys that work in the bush do it is how I learned things. The proper way of using a chainsaw and how to sharpen the chain properly. I'am not scared of using chainsaws I stared using one at 16 years old and a saw with a 36 inch bar.

Got the logs pulled up onto a easier area and now its nice and easy to buck up. They were originally cut into 20 foot lengths the owner of the land never did anything with them. They would have been good saw logs now after 5 years they are only firewood. You don't find that too often the wood is already seasoned its premium stuff but sad to say you can't get the money for it.

Sold one load it was 1.5 cords ended up selling it for 180 dollars it should have been more like 250 dollars. Not much demand for firewood the people that do want it can't afford to pay 150 a cord.

For the amount of work involved at 150 a cord you are not making a big profit. If you have a truck like mine with a dumping flatdeck you don't have to stack the wood on the truck. If you have a pickup with sides then you have to stack every stick of wood. A pick up truck you have to throw it off when you get to the customers house.

I have another cord and a half I think I will use it for myself or wait for a sale for it. I can't let those logs sit and rot anymore it is a waste. The person I sold the first load to uses wood as primary heat I gave the person a deal because they don't have lots of money to spend.

Many people have gone to pellet stoves which are more efficient and ordering bags of wood pellets is easier than getting firewood.

All I have to do is make sure my brother can come and pull me out of the spot where I'am cutting. My 2wd F-450 doesn't have enough traction with 3 tons of wood on the back.
