OK,i had an employee last year that was very careless at times. You know did things like load mowers on trailer without latching ball and trailer would pop up and scrape tailgate bash license plate etc. Also didnt put pin in on weedeater rack and one fell off and got cracked. And the big kicker he was mowing a clinic i do and he hit a propane tank cap that was sticking up and caused leaks in propane which cost 600 to fix.Theres several other things he did.My question is,would i be just to deduct these things out of his checks to make him be more careful.I mean i know accidents happen but it got a litle out of hand...any thoughts

What he said.
I believe you cannot deduct from an employees check for damages caused by said employee.
Consult your CPA or lawyer.

Check your State and Local Labor Laws before making any deductions. It may come back and bite you. But as in the previous post :hammerhead: He still has a job because??????????????????

No, you cannot decuct anything from his check, as far as I know. I would say its time to look for someone new.

He breaks something he fixes it! You will buy the parts and they will fix it. If they cant they dont have a job. If you are talented enough to break it, you are talented enough to fix it. Plus you dont get paid to fix it!
I have done this on small items, trimmer, blowers etc.
I was so mad at one employee 2 years ago because they didnt check the air in mower tires, and it ran flat at a clients house. I made the team come home and told the employee to manually dismount the tire off the rim. I patched the hole and then I had them remount i,t then bead the tire/inflate it.
I didnt have a flat tire again all year on any item.
Oh and I didnt pay them either for this experince. I paid them once and they failed to do their job, if they want their job they will give me their time or can find something else.
