View Full Version : Honda vs Kawasaki
I am seriously considering a Hustler mini-Z when they come out this July and the engine options are Honda or Kawasaki. I have read all the debates between Kohler and Kawasaki and happen to own both, Kohler on my Shortcut, Kaw on my new Hustler Z. Don't really have enough hours on either to decide which I like best. I just haven't seen much discussion about Honda power on ztr's
I would like to hear some comments on the Honda (20hp, I believe is what's offered).
Thanks ahead of time....Joe

It is not from my experience HLC. I have a friend that does tree work for me at some of my commercial accounts. his main job is working for the city of Lakeland. Roadside mowing crew. He's a super. They run WB mowers on smaller areas with the Honda motors. He said they are great motors but need,in his opinion, excessive maintenance.
Like I said,it's not from me. I have no idea what kind of operating conditions they(the mowers) are under.
I had a 18hp honda on a 52" honda hydro wb. It was the best engine I ever had. It had way more power than my 17 hp kaw.

Ihave a 36" Bunton with a Honda engine on it . It's over 10 years old a still runs like a champ, a little maintenance once in a while and I bet it would run for another 10 years. You get out of an engine what you put into it, treat it right and it will treat you right. Honda makes a fine product.
I know just about everything Honda puts their name on is good. I just haven't heard too much about Honda engines on ZTR's. I am leaning towards the Honda just because of their rep on other things. Thanks for the input....Joe

I use only Kaw's. 5 years now many hours no repair bills yet.
Can you find parts for that Honda as easy as the Kaws
Honda car has 274,569 miles, runs great.
