We are looking for a 2.5 gpm 2700 psi replacement pump for our pressure washer as it would cost more in parts to fix our pump than what a new one costs. We are considering a comet pump from northern tool for $200. It's a commercial duty and the price seems right, anyone have any experience with them? Would we be better off spending a little more for a Cat pump? This pressre washer doesn't get a lot of use so that is one thing to consider.

I really don't like northern tools that much, but if you need the pump call and ask where it made in? if its made in italy then get it it will be ok, but don't get chinas sh****t

$200 is a pretty low price from a relatively expensive store. I bet you it's not a great quality pump or term "commercial duty" is used the wrong way here.

Some terms like Premium, commercial, heavy duty lost their meanings and are overrated.
Right now you can buy premium items in dollar stores :)

If you need anything for your pressure washer , check this company first : Envirospec link here (http://www.mobicleaninc.com/page/17kb7/Home.html) Good prices , fast shipping and best customer service.

We decided to repair our pump, it is AR, we figured it would be worth putting some money into.

AR pumps are good quality but there is a huge differences between their pumps.
I have several pumps and 4 GPM / 4000 PSI are not created equal. "Same" 4000 psi with 4 gpm feels extremely different .
Is it some kind of industry scam ? Some things makes no sense regarding this issue.

Good luck with repair. It's almost always worth it , especially if you can do it by yourself.
