Anyone know where I can get the best compost available here in LI? I'm in central/western. Intalling a veggie garden in some of the crapiest of crap for next year. I bought maybe 15 yards last year and it was basically a joke compared to what was available where Im from (new jersey)

Talk to Peter Schmidt over at compostwerks, they have some of the best compost I have seen in a while. They take it very seriously and all of their stuff is tested and bio-assayed for bacteria, fungal, beneficial nematodes, etc.

I believe they are just north of NYC
My son graduated from Hofstra
Do you ever get products from Al Lane over at PTS?

Al Lane has been selling fertilizers on the island for over 30 years, very well respected. He is in Lindenhurst about 1/3 of the way out on the island. I think PTS has been in business since the late 50's
He is also an absolute character, even if you don't buy anything from them you should still meet him
We will be doing 3 shows with them late winter and early spring on the island
peter schmidt is a great guy too, no BS

My sources say the only game on the island is Long Island Compost & they don't like their compost. You should check in at the Organic Turf Show at Farmingdale University Feb. 16 7 make some contacts. www.organicturfshow.org
Peter Schmidt has good compost.

Lakewood. The recylcling center had some good stuff..free if you could pretend you were not a commercial op. It wasnt a very diverse compost or anything, but it worked very well and was COMPLETELY broken down. This is going back 5 years at this point since I last operated there.
