I second the Georgia Boot vote!!! Everyone's feet are different, but for mine I have found the Georgia's to be one of the best. Not cheap, but solid, and you get what you pay for! :):)

Ive tried Danner, Wolverine, Rockies, Timberland Pro, Timberland (old school style), and Merrill. Danner was the most comfortable but really expensive. Timberland (not Pro) was the best bang for the buck in my opinion. If you can part with the cash, give Danner a try. Lotsa guys wear Redwings...I may try them next time.

I ran Georgia boots for several years, loved them. I got a pair of schmits last year and love them too. Red wings are nice, but for a rip off of a price...

I forgot to mention i always get the slip on kind too, no laces... Keeps the grass and dirt away from your foot and socks. Obviously you cant wear them with shorts but i wear pants every day.

Justin slide-on work boots are by far the most comfortable I have ever worn. I have tried Rockys a few years ago, and Timberlands for the last couple of years up until this year. I love my Justins. Just slide 'em on and go. No laces.

I do the same. Used Reebok one year, last year used Adidas, and this year I used New Balance. I like the New Balance the best so far, this pair still looks and feel okay they might make it another year.

Do you still feel safe enough with out the protection of the boot, especially while trimming, and other possibly dangerous things?

i have used timberland pro my favorite until i started digging around a flower bed with them and wore the sole off in 15 minutes, they protected my feet well and cleaned up easily...I have had carolina steel toe and redwing w/out steel toe basically same boot(appearance) have had both for 15 years wear them daily they haven't missed a beat...if you looked at them today you would think they were only a couple months old. I can't do the walmart thing those boots are to wide....I looked at ordering a pair of wesco boots can't justify the price....I also owned a pair of Rocky boots, not for mowing interior of the boot broke down in just a few weeks

Vasque. They are made by redwing. They are more of a hiking boot than a traditional work boot but they are lightweight, waterproof, and yet breathe so your feet don't melt in the heat. I bought a pair last spring after throwing hundreds of dollars away on several pair of boots that I just couldn't wear without my feel just killing me after a few hours. I could wear the Vasque boots from 7 am till 11 pm and not think twice about it. I could walk all day behind a mower or trimming and my feet felt fine.
here they are: http://www.vasque.com/vasque-shoe/7462-vasque/7462-vasque-mens-breeze-gtx-brown
They were recommnded to me by another LS member (valk) who wears them too.

Never had any issues. I did see were one guy on here got it with an edger. You have to be aware of your surroundings at all times and watch were you put your hands and feet.
In another life I worked really close with OSHA and IIRC 99.7% of all incidents could have been avoided by the operator, the other .3% were out of operators control.
Speaking of OSHA steel toe is probably a requirement. If I can I'll look it up.

I have worn many: Danner, Wolverine, Timberland and Timberland pro, even some Doc Martens, but my favorites are my slip on Red Wings (American made version $$ but worth it).
As has been said, whatever fits you and feels best is what to go with after you try a few and figure it out. I also wear cross trainiers sometimes in the summer heat when I wear shorts.

In the summer I wear the Brahma steel toed boots, been wearing those for the last four years probably and replace them each season.
For the winter I wear Muck, they come up almost to my knees and I have a set of Yaktrax (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=L3U12OG0MSSGXLAQBBJCCOVMCAEFGIWE?id=0060219831137a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=0610106&cm_ite=0060219831137a&_requestid=47729) on them for doing snow. Just like walking on dry pavement. I really like the Muck boots for the winter because they keep my feet really warm.
When doing rough jobs I prefer my gov't issue intermediate/cold weather desert boots (Yeah I earned mine! Hawijah, Kirkuk province, Iraq) but when just doing normal maint. I like my merrell hiking boots. They are comfy and light weight. I get them at gander mountain.

Expensive but try Carhartt. I stopped buying Redwings about five years ago even though I got a great discount on them. Things might have got better with them over the years but I couldn't keep any of the stitching in them. The Carhartt's I have now are three years old and still great boots(only have my steel toes showing. They've held up thru wet trench work and blacktop tar. Only wierd negative is I've laced them so many times I think I've sharpened the eyelets so I go thru shoelaces like crazy.

gtfo.....i'm not saying they are the most comfortable, but cheap (price/quality) THEY ARE NOT!
There's a reason 9-1/2 out of 10 utility lineman wear them.
the missing 1/2 percent are wannabe lineman btw.

I checked out the Canadian website, not a lot available in size 14....arg.

I don't like heavy boots either, I prefer hikers, with or without steel toe doesn't bother me but I prefer to have the heavier toes, even if it's harder rubberized. I almost might go with a shoe this year. Low cut hikers in size 14 are hard to find these days and I don't want to custom order unless I absolutely have to, as if they don't fit good, I'll be ticked.
I phoned Marks Work Wear House in town here in regard to the Red Wing hikers, and the associate ordered a size 14 for me and he said if I didn't want them, chances are very high that they'll sell within a couple days time. It kills me that they have demand for bigfoot folks, but they carry mostly sizes 8-12. Arg.
