Two year old custom built lawn/landscape bed in good condition, only showing normal wear and tear. Bed is sitting on a 1989 GMC 2500 with blown head gasket - truck has run great in the past, brand new brakes and tires - but it is a 20 year old work truck and the interior shows it. $4000.00.

Looks like you had better hit the "edit" button. I believe you have one extra
"0" in the price don't you?

Ahhh, no - the price is $4000.00. Will consider trades for a nice 36'' plus cash.

You think 400 is a fair price for this? :dizzy:

I think they need to meet in the middle the truck is worth more than $400 the scrap yard would give him that much but its also not worth anywhere near $4000.

No, but the add says the truck is free, and the bed is not worth anywhere close to $4000.00. I can get a bed like that built here locally for a little under $1000.00. Of that, I am sure.

Well its not a new bed and now it has to be uninstalled and then reinstalled so now your paying way more then $4000 by the time you get it on a running truck, Good luck!

I would say anyone could have a new bed comparable to that one built and installed between $2500-$3000.

About $500 - $600 in used steel from the local salvage and steel supply place and about $400.00 labor. Nothing to building a bed like that. A little tubing, a little mesh, a few pieces of channel, and about two -three days of labor, with me helping my buddy, who is a welder.
I believe you can buy a bed, brand new, just like that one for about $1800.00 at J&I in Madill Oklahoma.

The metal workers in your area must be pretty desparate.

This area is well known as a source for inexpensive trailers and truck beds. There is a small town in northeast Texas that is the trailer building capital of the entire United States. J&I Manufacturing, in Madill OK, builds nice trailers and truck beds at prices you can find nowehere else in this country.
Unlike many other areas, most of this equipment is built by nonunion labor, which cuts the final price nearly in half. We also are blessed with very low taxes for businesses, a good pool of workers who want to work, and show up for work every day for a fair wage. We have lots of mini steel mills around the area, so materials are available at reasonable bulk pricing.
If you want quality built trailers or truck beds, at a very reasonable price, north Texas and southern Oklahoma are the places to shop.

Elkhart, IN is the same way, it's only a couple hours away so here in Ohio we can also get good trailers and truck bodies pretty cheap.

Need a LOT more info here...
How big is the bed?
How many miles are on the truck?
What transmission does the truck have?
What engine does the truck have?
Is the truck 4x4?
Need more pics of the truck, interior, etc...
What kind of tires, and how much life left?
From what I can see in the pics, the truck with bed may be worth $2,000. $1000 bed/$1000 truck.

Bed is 11.7 x 7.5 - dove is just about 4 feet. Solid Metal Floor, 3 piece trimmer rack, water cooler holder, and full upper cage. Truck is an 1989 GMC 2500 2wd 5.7ltr automatic. 171,000 miles, tires less than a year old, all new front brakes and calipers, and two year old black paint job. Not saying this truck is perfect but for $1000.00 in repairs someone could have a great starter rig.

Holy cow!!! Lets see. That is $4000.00 for the truck, plus $1000.00 in repairs= $5000.00Fair price for a truck actually worth $2500 - $3500 in good running condition?
I think not.
You really need to do some research on the DFW Craigslist, then get real on the price, if you actually expect to sell this truck.

A couple days worth of labor with two guys? Plus materials? Sounds like more than $1500 to me. Unless, of course, like many on here do, you just work for the sake of working and your time isnt worth anything.

Please keep in mind that this forum is for members who are interested in buying and selling items. If you are not interested in an item for sale, please do not post in that thread. If you feel that the item for sale is overpriced, too far away, not worth the money, etc.,etc. then no need to hop in the thread just to post your opinion on that specific item.
We would appreciate it, thanks

Thanks Marc, but are these guys serious? I love it - "If you do this and this and this, you can build your own bed out of playdough and staples for $12.85."
I'm not sure how many beds mowingman has built, but we are on thirteen in-house beds and counting, and not even the 21'' mower 1/2 ton beds will run $1500.00. Do us all a favor and price out materials and decent labor - then get back to all of us with one of your rambling bits of wisdom that only a has-been can give.

Been buying, selling, trading trucks, trailers, building custom beds, and restoring classic 4x4 trucks for last 14 years. Bought and sold more trucks than you likely will ever own, built more beds and custom truck acessories than you have ever owned.
I know a ripoff price on a truck when I see one, and so does everyone else on here.
Good luck with your sale. There is a sucker born every minute, so they say. So, you may very well get your price.
That is all I have to say about it.
