Don't spray can it cause it will look like garbage. Get a decent spray gun and good paint, it'll last you more than 3 years. And money will be well spent.

The trick to doing a DIY paint job is to do it anywhere but outside, even if you have sheets of plastic set up around the truck to keep the wind out, and never use anything that comes in a spray can!! The finish will not last, and will turn out dull with lots of orange peel, Plus it will chip and peel off over time. no matter how great the quality of the spray paint. You can get cheap regular auto paint at any auto paint shop. Or you could try to get a vocational school to do it, usually they will do it for just the cost of the paint.

$3-4k to paint a pick up truck???? wow thats high. around here its about 1k for a single stage paint job. If you go 2 part base plus clear you might be near $1600. I just went today to the bodyshop to get a price to paint a gmc 6500 forestry bucket truck quoted me $2k. Thats alot of truck to prep, prime, and paint.

Was that just for the cab or was it for both the cab and chassis?

If your doing it yourself it don't matter what paint you get, it will look like azz no matter what.

Im surprised its not more than that to paint that!! That is hours of taping off! Plus the booth has to be pretty tall to get that truck in.

its a slower time of year, most people wait till spring to get their minor fender bender repairs done. They did two trucks for me last year, a pick up and this trucks twin. Charged me $1500 for the pick up but he did new front fenders and new door skins and stuffed the box wells with duro glass. Charged me $2300 for the bucket truck but also fixed the drivers side door, had a crease in it. This time around all this truck needs is paint, said he could do it in 3 days.

The shop also does heavy equipment painting. When i was their they were just finishing up a huge cat dozer about the size of a D8. Could not tell exactly what it was had no stickers on it yet.

$2300. is a pretty good price for a bucket truck like that, and you know it was well maintained being it came from that large of a company. I wonder if they sell their used trucks around me in KY also? I have had a few projects when that would have great to have on hand!

Was that picture taken before or after the paint? It looks very flat.
