Guys,
I have a John Deere 445 lawn tractor. The hydro system is all made into the rear transaxle, so the power for the deck, wheels, and fluid fillup is all back there. I'm wondering if I can start using Mobil 1 like exmark is doing in my diff. instead of using JD's fluid. It seems that it'd be ag ood thing to do, but I'm just curious as to whether it'd damage anything or not. The transaxle fluid is used for deck lift, and power steering, and in the winter, front hydraulic lift for the blower. What do you guys think? It's a 6.0 qt. capacity.

It all depends on the viscosity of the oil in the transaxle. The Sauer-Sundstrand transaxle that was in my Woods walkbehind used hydraulic fluid and not a regular motor oil. Using the wrong kind of fluid can have terrible consequences.
